Re: 4.8 fuel consumption
With 285/70/17's ie 33" wheels, roof rack, front and rear bullbar, fridge, drawer system, 2 adults, 2 kids I average 4.4km/l excluding compensation for larger wheel size of 6% which means my average is in region of 4.664km/l....

Re: 4.8 fuel consumption
After reading this thread I plug my launch diagnostic in on my 4.8. Set the timming to 5BTDC. Adjusted the idling and then have it learn the idle airflow. Its much smoother and responsive now. I wil keep an eye on consumption figures.
It has a rich fume smell at the exhaust. Before and after the adjustment. If I check the CO% on the launch it says 0% . If I increase it to 7% you barely smell any fumes and on 9% there is no smell. My qeustion is, does anyone know what this setting should be? I am scared of running it to lean. Hence I put it back on 0 where it was.

I have the Nissan consult 3 program and the CO % factory spec is 2 % plus minus 1 percent but to set this you must use a co analyzer/ 4 way gas analyzer inserted into the exhaust.
The Patrol will come from the factory with a 0 setting like you have using your diagnostics software, all it means is there is no adjustment that has been hard coded into the ECU.
The factory workshop tells you how to do it.
I set mine so it reads 1.5 % on the CO gas analyzer display.

Re: 4.8 fuel consumption
I got the best economy this weekend since owning my Patrol 4.8 GRX.
I joined a 4x4 club this past weekend for an economy trip from CapeTown to Lainsburg then down to R62 and back to Cape Town. overnight camped at porcupine rest camp - very nice spot)
Drove 506 Km between fill ups and only used 65 liters of fuel so averaged 7.8km per liter : . Average speed was 90KM/H.
All other vehicles where diesel Isuzu and they got around 11- 13 km/l
was actually nice travelling at that speed, nice and relaxing.
Pic is off travelling 388 KM with almost half a tank of fuel left.

Re: 4.8 fuel consumption
Thanks for the feedback Noel, and that goes to prove a point! The best consumption I got was also around 7,8km/l, at also 90 - 100km/h (230km's)

Re: 4.8 fuel consumption
Thats very interesting results and very good consumption!!
Would be interesting to see what a 4.2D and a 3.0 will get at 90km/h

Re: 4.8 fuel consumption
Did you have a roof rack on? And what tyre pressure were you at for the most part?
