Patrol built locally Y61

Post by NISMOnator »

Hi Almal,

Ok so I have been under the assumption as I believe a lot of other are as well that our Nissan Patrol's Y61 is assembled/built in Japan - the land of the Rising Sun.....so I read up a bit on the Patrollie on Wiki.....

Here is the link... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Pa ... .932013.29 - it seems the Patrol is built/assembled in the following places:

Assembly
Japan: Hiratsuka (1997–2000); Kanda
Malaysia: Kuala Lumpur (TCMA) (2019–present)
Morocco: Tanger (2009–present)
Pakistan: Karachi (2005–present)
South Africa: Rosslyn (2001–present)
Spain: Barcelona (1998–2009)

Does this mean that the Patrol we are driving is assembled/built locally?

Nothing wrong with that I guess just curious. Maybe this will mean it will stay in production as long as Rosslyn (Nissan SA) is willing to built it?

Australia already lost the Y61......The Legend is being totally replaced by a Limo and I wonder what the UN will say about this? :oldtimer:

Well .... its definitely not build in Rosslyn .
The 2-3 sales a month would not justify any local assembly.

The first two letters in you VIN number will indicate were the vehicle comes from.

As this is JN..... the manufacturing place will be Japan.

Jip, my VIN says made in Japan :)

Makes you wonder what other info we read on the great go-to website which could be rather misleading.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing whether they are being built here, I really don't know.
If they are, or were, it might be for overseas market and not necessarily for SA market... :mytwocents:

It could be that the UN patrols are assembled here.

I frequently see truck-loads of them at fhe holding lots of the vehicle tramsport companies that seem to be quite common around here.

Just for interest sake, I worked in the Nissan production plant in Rosslyn from 2004 untill 2007 and we never built any Patrols there during that time and I know for a fact that they are not building them there presently. I have family members still working for Nissan SA
