Re: 4.8 fuel consumption
I average around 5.5 on my 4.8.
I am a very aggressive driver (kort van draad as I am used to driving my bike where traffic is normally not an obstacle for me). I have bigger tyres (M/T's), lifted suspension and after market steel bull bar. Given this I am quite satisfied with my consumption. I recon if my patrol was stock standard I would have easily achieved 6.something and with a bit less aggression maybe even better.

Re: 4.8 fuel consumption
On my recent trip to Botswana / Namibia, I did almost 6000km and averaged 4km/l. Worst I got was 2.9km/l.

Re: 4.8 fuel consumption
I used to get 4 to 4.3 km/l with my Patrol.
Early Nov 2016 I installed a Summit4x4 snorkel and at the end of Nov I installed a Viper 63mm freeflow exhaust. They put the original 50mm downpipe back on the car (this was removed when I installed a Cheetah 75mm freeflow) and built the freeflow with 3 boxes.
I serviced the car (this never made a difference on the consumption in the past) and I removed the powervalve's butterfly.
I filled up for our Namibia trip. The consumption was 4.2km/l.
And then it happened:
We drove almost 6000km on the Namibia trip and my average consumption was 5.4km/l with the best 6.2 km/l.
Between Khowarib Slucht and Etosha we drove for almost 100km in a riverbed and the further we went the harder I had to drive to avoid getting stuck. In this stretch I used a half tank of petrol. This is the worst consumption I had but from there we drove a short bit on tar and then from the west of Etosha to Halali at 60km/h. The average consumption for the day was still 5km/l.
Last month I went to KNP towing my Conqueror Commander. I towed between 100 and 110km/h all the way to Satara and later that day we went for a short drive looking for lions and leopards. The consumption was 5.5km/l.
On the way back home I filled up at Skukuza and after leaving the park I wasn't driving as relaxed as when we went there. The consumption was 4.7km/l.
This trip was almost 2900km and the average consumption was 5.6km/l and the best was 6.1km/l.

Re: 4.8 fuel consumption
