Winch?
Guys,
I bought and ARB B/bar from a member here sometime last year. I've got to get my Trol to Graham for servicing and fitting the ARB. Graham has said I need to decide if I want a winch at the same time. I've always had winches although the way I work nowadays, I wonder whether I will ever get an opportunity to use it. No matter, eventually one day – especially given that the car only now has 37,000 km on it after four years of use!
What are the options nowadays for a decent wench at a halfway livable price? I see that there are a few MacAfric hydraulic winches available now as well – 15,000 pounds job for about ZAR 12,000. No idea what they are like though and even if the 4.8 is suitable for a hydraulic winch.
Any tips or thoughts would be appreciated as I need to make a decision one way or another quite soon. Up until now I have been thinking of simply using my hi lift Jack as a winch but that also has limitations, especially when you are dealing with the vehicle with the weight of a loaded Patrol.
I suppose I am going to be adding a lot of weight to the vehicle with the bull bar and the winch and that this will probably affect both acceleration and fuel consumption.
Cheers,
Clem

Re: Winch?
Hi Clem
I have the 9000LB Come Up winch which haven't let me down (...when helping other people ).
I don't think the 4.8 even notices the extra weight.

Re: Winch?
I will never again buy a winch from Adendorf/Mac Afric. Their hand tools are fine, but I am not impressed with their power tools.
We bought a 12 000lb electric winch from them for my Dad's Hilux a few years ago. It only worked every second time it was needed. Thus, in effect, it only worked once each time it was repaired.

Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.
