I assume that spring is what has caused this... If you're battling to get a viscous, I've got a spare for a 4.5. I replaced mine a while ago and kept the old part. It's old so it's not perfect, but it still worked when removed. It should still be OK as a temporary replacement whilst you wait for a new one. A heck of a lot better than the one you've got currently at any rate. But I'm not sure whether the 4.2 and 4.5 viscous couplings are the same. I've attached a picture for comparison.

If you want it, let me know and we can make a plan to get it to LA.
Thanks for the offer Ian.... really appreciated !!!

I have just spoken to Elaine from Auto Cooling in Cape Town, where I purchased the unit I currently have. She is going to measure up a replacement and courier it up to me. So should be back up and running in a few days.

No worries. If it's going to take a while to get a new part and you'd like a unit before the expected ETA, please let me know. The courier service I use here should have it there by you on the same day I hand it in for delivery. Plus, it'll probably only cost ZAR 100-odd.

I'd bring it through myself, but am currently a little wrapped up in projects, reporting, and similar.

Dankie Oom Mac for the offer. I have ordered a new viscous from Elaine at Auto Cooling in Cape Town, as I got the previous one from her too with a new fan blade. There seems to be 3 different ones available for the Patrol, and I don't do long distances so the Patrol hardly gets warm nevermind hot....hahaha

The new one will be here on Thursday, so I'll wait till then and change it one time. Its a bliksem to get the bliksemse thing in and out...... got lots of spanner rash on my hands already from when I took it out yesterday.

Yeah, it is a weird one. Even Elaine from Auto Cooling has never seen a thermostat "spring" look like that. I also cannot understand how that breaks. I must say that I have received wonderful service from her and even a good discount because of my problem, which she didn't have to do.

It should arrive tomorrow so going to do the hand spanner rash thing over the weekend....hahaha.... again.
