Can we not change the way we upload our avatars - it's really a mission. Just trying it now - dropped pic to 120 x 120 (even less actually) and still not under 19kb.
This is a real pain - and I'm very PC literate, I can only imagine how those who aren't feel.
In today's age, we can go much higher res - and we should - makes the site look better, members would be inspired to post better pics, and of course, much more user friendly.

Re: Avatars (profile pics)
Based on experience with other types of Forum software I believe this is driven by settings and limitations within the software. Just had a look on the 4x4Community Forum and the limitation is 19.5KB there as well.

Aah even there? OK thanks George - hopefully admin can get the developers to work on that!
Till then, are there any tips/tricks on how to do this? I've only got Paint installed currently. Clicked on resize and did so, and image still over 30kB. With other editors I was able to compress the image further, but Paint doesn't appear to have this functionality.

Re: Avatars (profile pics)
More than 3 years and I still have no Avatar. Have tried following a couple of instructions but no luck. I run Linux which should make it easy but it has not worked.

Is your problem with "developing" a suitable photo, or with installing it once done? If the first, mail it to me and I will butcher it for you.

Hi Tejan
The 120x120 I think is just so that the avitar displays the same size. Not sure why the kb size is a factor and why it needs to be smaller that 19kb, but yes it might be the development side.
What sometimes helps is to just open it in paint or something and just save it from there. Should reduce the file size.
In short it must be 120x120 and also smaller than 19kb otherwise it will not upload

Re: Avatars (profile pics)
Thank you for all the feedback and help guys. You are right about the visual size, but I have increased the file size to 200kb for more res.
Cheers

Re: Avatars (profile pics)
That's cool. When I worked at Gravum company, we also made it possible to upload avatars for all users, however, the size was increased to 300 mb
Then they decided not to load the site and reduced it to 200 mb
