Re: 96 4.2 GQ Diesel R55,000
So here is my thoughts on what needs to be done to the vehicle.
The roof rails will need to be fixed ie straightened, and given some paint, one corner welded. They are a bit rusted where the roof rack clamps where attached, I did not find any other rust on the vehicle.
It has a ding on both rear corners that one can fix but this would be personal preference.
There is two prominent scratches as per the pictures that can get some attention.
The vehicle is just plain dirty inside and out and would really need a proper cleaning, hopefully this does not reveal more problems but nothing I could see...
Inside also dirty, he does some diving and one can see the sand on the rear bumper and carpet in the back. Carpet, seats and panels need a VERY good cleaning.
Front passenger seat was replaced with a Bakie bench seat and he sommer screwed a little holder onto it, will try and get a seat from David to replace.
Two screws going through the Cubby hole where a little panel was screwed on to make a small table of sorts at some stage, so live with the two screws or replace cubby hole door.
This is the cosmetic stuff that one will have to fix, probably not a necessity but it would definitely make a huge difference.
I took her for a spin and she pulls well compared to my own GQ,
Tested the 4L on the grass and it seemed to be in order, Has a LSD at the back and it gripped as far as I could tell.
What would need to be done mechanically - the Aircon radiator needs replacement - New one has already been bought so its fitment and re-gas.
Then the one thing that weirded me out was the diesel pump, he put in a manual diesel pump which means when switching the vehicle off one needs to pull on a little lever inside to cut the fuel. I would replace with original electric pump as I find this not right but I guess he felt it was one thing less electronic.
Oh and the windows are manual not electric.
So this is the inns and outs of the vehicle.
R65k for a Diesel seemed a good price but I negotiated it down to R55k taking the above into consideration - was hoping I could fix all the above for around the R10k mark.
He accepted my offer, I just want to take it to Michael to have a look at it for me before paying.
And then I bought the one in Cape town which also needs some attention, so I am a bit cash strapped when it comes to fixing up both. The reason for me thinking of selling the Diesel for the R55k I am paying for it.
So if anybody wants to take it over as is let me know, or if you want to wait to see what Michael says then you will have to wait till next week depending on my schedule.

Re: 96 4.2 GQ Diesel R55,000
So it still the N/A TD42 Dirk?? It looks damn sweet deal for R55k in my opinion. Motor look clean ( no oil leaks I could see ) so will be work the cosmetic costs to have the ultimate TD42 still in "virgin" condition.
I'm sure that diesel pump wiring can be integrated into the ignition system quite easily and safely via a relay etc, as I assume its just being utilized as a lift pump to take the strain off the injector pump having to suck the fuel through.

Yep still N/A. The quick drive I took in town it pulled as good as My GQ and better than my old 4.2 Petrol. Engine definitely way cleaner than the rest........
