There has to be a reason why there are so many Patrols pop their radiators..does the antifreeze changes its character after a certain age and generate more steam or or or ???
Just putting it out there..
Definitively a good idea to drain and change. I just did mine after 100 000Km. The coolant still looked very good ( nice clear blue tinted water came out ). I replaced with the antifreeze I originally got from Silvertons Radiators ( Nissan original price is ridiculous ). I bled the system properly and noticed a few mm difference on the dash temp gauge.

IMPORTANT !!!!!!...... stick to the mixing instructions !!!!! Rather slightly over dilute than under dilute as the coolant, if too strong, can have very negative effects on the metal in the motor !!

My system with the bigger radiator takes close on 13-14L of water. The coolant I use is a 50/50 mix ratio, but only used 6 bottles so am a little under the 50/50 mix.

The original Nissan antifreeze states on the bottle to mix it 30% antifreeze with 70% tap water. they are very strong and probably one of the best on the market.

But yes as Cedric mentioned.....they are MADLY priced at Nissan and you really find it hard to swipe your card on the purchase. So on a system flush, you need about 4,5L so 5L is fine but it is going to set you back almost R700 :surprised:

Yep, dropped R700 in November for new anti freeze at Nissan just before the Rust de Winter trip, now I would like to take the radiator out for a clean but don't want to spend that again....

:rolling: :rolling: :rolling: :rolling: ... Dirk, I have the same dylema.... I forgot to change the radiator hoses when I did the coolant flush..... I think I'm going to make a plan to somehow drain the water out into a container, change the hoses and then filter the coolant before putting it back.

I cannot see why not. Coolant is too expensive to just discard and if you filter out any dirt that came into the bucket your antifreeze should be fine. I have done this before on my own and had no problems.

Got a radiator from Graham for R4500.00 and a viscous fan from Imperial Nissan Menlyn for R4300.00. Patrol fixed up again. Received very good service from Riaan at Imperial Nissan Menlyn. Had no problem installing the radiator not sourced from them. Thank you to forum members for the interest and help.
