Death wobble....
1) check king pin bearing play - remove shim in the meantime till you get new bearings to replace ( don't loose the shims )
2) check wheel bearing tightness
3) check brake disks for warp
4) check tie rod ends ( all of them ) for play
Regards
Cedric

Ha ha Josh, sounds funny when reading it but Im sure laughter was the very last response when the death wobble paid you a visit......

Like Cedric said, I will start there. Doing the king pin bearings and wheel bearing is the best thing you can do.....who knows in what condition they are in.
Just jack the front end up en feel is there is any play on the wheels, but give it some propper action when you check

Easiest is to jack it up, put tge front axle on stands, get somebody to turn the wheel just a little bit back and forth while you crawl around underneath to see where the play is.
Also grip the wheels top and bottom and check for play.

As for the gearbox whine, replace the oil while keeping all your fingers crossed.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.
