Re: Tinus se 4.2TD bakkie!!
Looks awesome Boet!
37's would look epic, or even 35's! i would find that even 1st gear low rownage would be too "fast" for me. The patrol lacks only one thing when compared to the land cruisers and that is very low gearing. I reackon even with 35's the gearing isnt low enough, specially on very steep rocky descents. But you could always put reduction gear in the transfer case to sort that out. easy.

Re: Tinus se 4.2TD bakkie!!
I noticed something interesting between the 4.2D pickup and Wagon ratio's
At 120km/h on the speedo Tinus's pickup does 2800rpm
At 120km/h in my wagon I do just under 2600rpm
Must be differant gearbox ratio's?

Re: Tinus se 4.2TD bakkie!!
There is no variations between models using the FS5R50B gearboxes. (as is your cases and all GU's).
Nor is there variation between Transfer cases. All models use the same gearbox and transfer box.
The differences always lay in the diffs.
The H260 in Tinus 's patrol pickup is a 4 Pinion, running 4.111 gears most likely, very rarely were Patrols fitted with 4.375 gears.
Micheal, is yours the H260 ? or the H233 ? You can check by looking on the firewall . it will be stamped within a set of other numbers and letters, which will include correlating numbers to the size of the diff, and the gearing within it from factory.
I suspect yours is fitted with 3.9Gears given the differences in revolutions at 120.
Mine does about 2800 odd at 120km/h as well.
Just like toyota, where a 105 series and a 79 series use the exact same running gear, they took into consideration the general use of each vehicle (105 being a day to day school run vehicle, 79 being a farm/ agriculture vehicle), they gave the 105 longer gears to make it more comfortable around town etc with less gear changes particulalrly 1st and 2nd gear.
However, the differences is that toyota did this through their gearbox rather than the diffs.
We all know how poor the R151 land cruiser gearbox is, however, problems experienced were always heavily weighted with the 79's, and seldom with the 105's. This i blieve is due to the extra low gearing offered in the 79 due to gearing, and the R151 box (which they use in the hilux), is not up to the task.
anyway, we drive patrols so we all good.!

Maybe the tyre size different between the Patrols will also have a different on the revs.
