Hi guys

Thought I'd add to this thread instead of creating a new one. Last week I got a gift from a Chinese customer/friend in Hong Kong after complaining about the old school tape deck/cd shuttle in my 4.8. It's basically an Android tablet that plays DVD's. Total Chinese job with no branding whatsoever, but the damn thing works brilliantly! For now anyway. Even the steering wheel controls function correctly. GPS and navigation already has SA loaded, but you can connect to the internet and download any update or other navigation system you prefer.

Biggest mission was sorting the wiring, which was of course totally different. Luckily one of the previous owners already had the wires cut and joined again, so I didn't feel too bad about removing the old connectors to attach to the new one.

Finding the correct version of the workshop manual and which supplement to use took the longest, but eventually found the correct one and joined the old and new with Scotchlocs. Thought I'd post the wiring and connector setup on here in case someone ever needs it.

Jonathan

Can others order it?
And do you know how much?
And is an instruction manual available in English?

Alex soos ek verstaan van my konneksie was hierdie spesifieke model $220. So huidiglik net oor R3000.

I purchased the same unit (about 6 months ago) from A&S Wholesale in Pretoria / 15 Bazaar Street / Aisian Bazaar / Mr Sunnyboy
Tel 012 3236684

I paid: 2300 for the Unit + 300 R for the reverse Camera + 400 Installation
(outside on the parking lot ,,,,, on the street ) Total 3000.
(Not the best area)

The same or similar unit is also offered by autostyle in Jhb and various flee markets in Gauteng i.e Zambezi / PTA
All between 2500 - 3500 R

It runs on IGO GPS and I find it better than the Garmin.
I am quite happy with the unit. Everything works fine (so far)

I am in the market to upgrade my unit.

So this may seem like a silly question, but if there is no branding and I go onto autostyle, how would I know which one to buy?

Hi Alex

The unit I bought looks exactly like Jonathans unit
There was no branding on the unit but the invoice said:
" Necvox DX 500 / Nav / GPS / Entertainment system".

I went to the shop and looked at the different options; listened to the description of the salesperson and decided on the best value for money option, well knowing that its a no-name product made in China.

And ....as I said... so far so good..... nice system

One can say that buying a cheap Chinese GPS radio has perhaps a certain risk. I made also experiences were I bought very well known high end products were one pay twice the price of a standard brand and when the product falls apart they do not honor they warranty period.

So... whatever you do... the choice is yours.

I did some searching using the info I had and this is my exact unit, except the part that says the wiring will fit the original!

http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/A ... 99859.html

I must say at this stage the quality looks good, the radio reception is better than the original and I'm stoked to have gotten such a cool prezzy!
