Rear prop shaft 4.8 GRX

Post by NMAD »

Can anyone confirm the correct orientation of the rear prop shaft by checking on your 4.8 GRX auto?

I have checked the Nissan part diagram and it shows the sliding sleeve or part with the rubber is closest to the rear diff. I also called Nissan and the parts guy confirmed its correct.

Reason I am asking is that I had my prop shaft balanced and the prop shaft fitment guy said it should have the sliding part on the gearbox/transfer side?

Ok thanks Wilkie, I thought it was right but just needed to make sure as the fitment guy could not believe it went in that way round.

On my car, both are fitted with the slip-joint nearest the gearbox. But mine's a GQ, so it probably doesn't count.

Hi Peter

I checked your Patrol on the parts catalogue and it also shows the propshaft slip joints nearest to the diffs? Maybe the SA version is different to the Euro spected patrols.

GOOD DAY GENTS !
On most serious 4x4's the slip joints are placed near the gearbox , to avoid damage from rocks , and there is less chance of being submerged during water crossings . Just some usable info for thought !
Cheers for now .

Ek stem nie saam nie die slip joint moet nader aan die Ratkas wees ,Anders is daar te veel spanning op die propshaft Dit is my opinie kan verkeerd wees
