Cedric, I actually have no idea what rge A/R is of the turbo as it looks like a very un common turbo and has very little writing on it, but in short it is a Mitsubishi TD05.

It was still working 100% when I sent it in, it did not bypass any oil at the seals and still boosted like always.....it was just noisy under boost and I did not want to take any chances during my trip.

Cost me R4,300 for a complete recon.

Ok so I have not updated my page in a while and its Friday at work with very little motivation to get my last work done

SO my Turbo works perfect now after TurboWorks changed the actuator, Its boosting 0.8 bar now and I want to push it up soon.....

On the body side of things I have fitted my new "PATROL" plate for better air flow over my intercooler and also fitted a set of LED spots and I think they look very cool!

Ok some more "progress" on my Patrol but really just an update on where I am regarding my Patrol.

So I have now done 28,000km with the new engine and so far it has really been smooth sailing.

One problem I started getting was that the engine started running warmer than I liked. It never got hot as my Madman system worked like a bomb. I set the alarm to 100 deg so that I can be aware of everything when it reaches that temp. This is by no means hot as Nissan sais that the normal temperature range is between 90 and 118 deg, but what I noticed was that I really had to drive carefully at those temps as the radiator really struggled to keep the engine cool.

This was noticed on my trip to Namibia in the very hot temperatures there, so about two months ago I took out the radiator to have it serviced at Silverton along with my air condenser. They phoned me two days later stating that I have at least 30% of the cores blocked which they cannot get open. They said the only option was to build a new radiator from scratch.......not what I wanted to hear.

So getting a quote of R7,500 for a new radiator just wasn't what I needed and bottom line was that I could not afford it. So still with the one tank off the Radiator I "rodded" the cores myself and ended up with 14% blocked cores.
Now I know 14" blocked cores sounds like a fair amount of blockage and it is, but I was willing to take this chance as it was already allot better than I had before.

My second and biggest problem was the thermostat housing, I was shocked to see what the state was of the housing and this explain allot of my heat issues. The bypass hole was almost completely corroded away and because of this the thermostat could not close off that hole when fully opened. This meant that all the water was not passing through the Radiator.

So I got a new housing, new viscus, new/second hand fan blade, new water pump (thought I might as well get one as I used the old one when I rebuilt the engine), new proper anti freeze as my old ones were rubbish.

Now after all of this I also upped the boost to 0.95 bar and matched the fuel.......I also think my fuel pump is maxed out now.

My Patrol now runs better than ever, the power is amazing and the fuel consumption is even better than before. The new viscus really makes a difference on the power as my old viscus was always stiff.

I drove down to Richards Bay in December and averaged 8.46km/L which is my best ever. Drove 670km there and the fuel needle was still between 1/4 and E. The whole trip there and back including some dune driving ended up being 7.66km/L which I am more than happy with.
I must add that I was not heavy loaded and drove between 100 and 110km/h.

EGT's max reading was 628 deg pre-turbo and highest water temp recorded was 98 deg and max oil temp was 71 deg.

Michael,

Nice. Impressive figures...

I've noticed you've featured in the last two "Weg Ry's". Always nice when I see familiar people / vehicles featuring there.
