Safari with Autobox

I would like to buy a Safari for my son but he must only drive automatic vehicles because he was born without a left hand.

I found out that I can get an automatic gearbox from a Skyline or Laurel with the same L28 engine of the Safari - it will cost me R3500-00.

The Safari's diff is a 4,875 : 1 and the Laurel's diff is 3,5 for the manual one and I could not find what the automatic one is but is should not be big different.

Now I wonder if there will be a big problem if I change the Safari's manual gearbox with the Laurel's automatic gearbox because of the diffirences of the diffs.

We will go and check the length of the automatic gearbox tomorrow and last night I found that the Safari's gearbox is about 50cm long.

I hope that we can change the manual gearbox to the automatic one. :think:

Herrie,
Die ratios sal werk want die ratkas is gewoonlik 1:1 in die hoogste rat en die diff ratio op die safari kompenseer vir die groter wiele en gee ook n stadiger maar sterker finale rit.
Waar jy gaan sukkel is by die extention housing van die autobox. Dit is baie langer as die 4 spoed en het ook n spline coupling in plaas van die flange en handbriek drom.

Ek het ook nou uitgevind dat die 2.8 Skyline se diff 4.11 is en dat die 2.0 Skyline met sy 6 silinder engine en autobox se diff ratio is 4.38 en sal moet uitvind of daardie autobox op die Safari se engine kan vas bout.

As jy regtig groot wil gaan , is die ultimate om n Gq oordra ratkas te vat en die l28 autobox se extension af te haal en dan die twee aanmekaar te bout. Met heelwat modifikasies natuurlik. Dan is jy ontslae van die kort propshaft wat altyd vibreer en sit met n onbreekbare oordra ratkas. Die cross members kan rondskuif en die voor en agter propshafts kom op die regte plekke uit. Handbriek drom is ook dieselfde plek as die ou een. Sal dalk die shafts effens moet verander. Ons het al die somme gemaak , en die ratios werk perfek uit.

Dit is wat die Safari se manual wys vir die autobox shaft sodat jy nie die transferbox moet skuif nie.

Ek sien my vorige post het weg geraak. Miskien net nie die post knoppie gedruk nie :redface:

Ek sien my MQ C200 en H260 diff is ook 4.8 ratio. Mense het my vertel ek moes verkeerd getel het en die goed sal 4.35 of so iets wees. Werk vir my wel goed uit want die Sani was ook 4.8. Maar ek sit nog met lekker lang bene met die 33" bande wat my baie roof van krag op die arme 2.7TD.

Bogeyman, ek moet a Safari Transfer nog vas maak op my bestaande Sani se ratkas met transfer. Ek sien die ding sit met so 400mm se propshaft, en ek sal graag die tweede transfer so naby aan die Sani se boks wil kry om langer propshaft tussen transfer en ager diff te hê. Ek gaan al klaar met baie kort propshaft sit van so 600-700mm.

Het gedink ek kan ontslae raak van die klein propshaft tussen die twee transfer cases, en net die slip joint in die Sani boks reguit vat deur UJ na die flange wat op die Safari transfer vas maak.

Enige idees???

Kobus, sover ek weet pas die ratkaste van die L-reeks enjins (L18, L20 en L28) almal op mekaar. Hulle gebruik dieselfde bellhousing-gat profile.

My seun, Jacques, het nou hierdie een gekoop en ons sal dit Donderdag kry en sal ook die Skyline 2.0 autobox kry en dit insit. :blonde: :thumbup:
