Re: My Patrol Pickup thread...
Russ, I dropped them off at Bosch in the morning and got them back that afternoon with recon tips and they let me see the spray pattern when I collected.
I think almost all the fuel injection places can recon your existing tips... your Patrols I mean....hahaha

Re: My Patrol Pickup thread...
I think i'll have a look at the battery first. Maybe not enough power to warm the glowplugs up propperly? But its not every time that i need to turn ignition twice. This morning in the cold it started right way.
The engine runs very smoothly, even at startup. The smoke is more of a puff when the egine cranks up which instantabously subside.
The battery in my patrol is a bosch, here is a pic of the discription/model. Not sure what is the reccomended rating for a patrol?

Russ Kellermann wrote:hahaha. Ja,.. i have heard of many that fall out over time. Take the one you have to a Fastener Shop (nut and bolt) , and get them to match you one, if they cheap by two and then you have two new ones. easy. Set it up how you like it and maybe put a tiny spot of locktight on them.
I found a bolt that fits. (At my local mechanic in town - the hardware shops, midas etc did not have a bolt with the correct thread).
There was quite bit of dirt and grime on the thread, so it took some elbow grease to tighten the bolt, but it will not fall out again. Then i also djusted the bolt/nut on other side. No more wheels rubbing.
The turning cycle is acceptable.

Re: My Patrol Pickup thread...
from hat you are saying here, I think your battery and plugs are fine, but have a silly question..... Do you let the glow plugs warm up sufficiently. On mine as soon as the ignition hits the "on" position the glowplugs start heating up, then a few seconds later there is a click. Then a second or 2 later there is a click again and another about 3 seconds later, then again after about 1 or 2 seconds another click and after about 3 seconds another click. So basically there are 3 cycles that take place. the plugs hit a hot phase, then a not so hot phase, then hot again then not so hot, then hot again then back to not so hot. I usually start mine on the second or third cycle depending on how cold the outside temperature is. If you swing the engine over and it doesn't start, you should hear the 3 click cycles start over again.
The glow plugs stay on "not so hot" cycle till the water temp reaches 50 deg C, then switch off completely. In summer months I count to 3 once the ignition in on "ON" and then my Iron Maiden starts first time.

Re: My Patrol Pickup thread...
Interesting. No I have not heard any clicks. The glowplug indicator light comes on, I usually wait for the light to go off before I turn the key, but no audible click. is there a fuse for the glowplugs? If there is, then this might the problem?
