Re: Is this a bargain 4.8 GRX
You know Jules, I have exactly the same model (196,000km) and any selling price would/should be relatively low (unfairly so as well) because of the perception that the fuel consumption is high. But you and I, and many others too, know that this fallacy is masked by the fact that there are little (if any) other costs that need to be catered for, (excluding normal maintenance) and ultimately we should all work on the total cost per kilometer, rather that just the fuel. In any case, I am amazed at how many vehicles today are actually as thirsty if not more so, and yet nobody seems to notice?
I have also been of the opinion that a bargain is a good product bought cheaply, not a cheap product. So although the patrol you are asking about has a relatively high mileage, (but not excessive), and sadly all the nice goodies (winch etc.) have little or any resalable value, it means you probably looking at a bargain? Check it out for the usual indicators, and then let us know the price? Or did I miss it?
Regards, Chris

This looks like a reel good buy. I see it got aftermarket rims also. If Graham can have a look and everything is ok or can be fixed at a decent cost, I will be tempted if I had the money.

Re: Is this a bargain 4.8 GRX
It looks like a bargain to me, my son bought a 2004 model and paid R140k, had all the bells and whistles and I thought that was a bargain - ARB, Roof rack, snorkel, 2nd battery, OME suspension, drawer system, with about 230 000km on the clock.
Now my question, if the Patrols are so heavy on fuel, why do they all have such high kilometre readings............???

Re: Is this a bargain 4.8 GRX
Hi,
A bargain is something you need (want) and can get for nothing!
On the other hand, what you can have for less than the money you have available is also great.
Why are you guys so worried about the km's?
One of my Trollies is almost run in 491,000 km's, nothing done to it, sorry just chipped, I see another on the forum has more than 900,000 km's.
These things go for ever and as proven the R/c/km cost, maint can fix anywhere, etc is much less than "JUST THE KM/LITRE" consumption one has to take many factor into consideration.
Pack a Patrol with the same stuff on the roof as any 'other' popular 4X4 and do the same 'off-road' stuff and see the difference in handling, stability, and if any lack of available power.
I have seen what happens ,and sure many of you have seen the same outcome of a 'top heavy, narrow base, critical role over angle other 4X4' getting out of difficult situations! "ALL FALL OVER"
My family safety is PRIME to me and their is only one other 4X4 who's base is wider than my Patrol but it cost's R1 MILLION PLUS.
So R/C/cost & fuel you just cannot beat a NISSAN PATROL, any millage, any year and any where!
Others may argue 'you don't find much spares in Africa for Patrol's', yes I agree, why?
'BECAUSE WE DONT NEED THEM'
So yes a bargain, check out the chassis work as is suggested!
I also have a 1999 grx 4.5 should you still be looking for round R100,000 with a few more 'bell's & frill's'
James
