Re: Wheelbearings
ja,.. my Patrol pickup Manual says 40 000km interval bearing re-pack,...
When i had the wobbles, i checked my bearings for any play - nothing. I checked for any grinding noises - nothing. I checked for any contamination - nothing,.... i then took a shim from the king pin top and bottom, and sorted my wheels and tyres balance out, and never looked back. Bearing still seem 100% and my bakkie is going on 195 000km now.
But,...i dont want one to seize up out in the bush,....so do i leave well alone, or do i upset the peace and re-pack and put new seals in etc.....not sure what to do.

Re: Wheelbearings
Indeed a conundrum. Addidng further to the conundrum:
1) At the same time, one is supposed to re-grease the Birfields. This is quite a job on it's own, as the only way to do it properly is to remove, clean thoroughly, re-pack and re-install...
2) On the other side of the coin, Nissan workshops only do this if there is evidence of leakage from the birfield seals.
While I believe it is probably wrong, I am inclined to take my que from Nissan in this instance. At 40k km, take the hubs of and re-torque the bearings, after deep crossings take one of the bottom bolts of the swivel pin bearings and check for water, and fiddle deeper only if you see evidence of issues...

Re: Wheelbearings
This is exactly what i have adopted in regard to bearings... ie: Leave well alone unless prompted otherwise due to visible/audible evidence.
My only concern is that grease may loose its fundamental properties over time (ie: burnt? ....etc).... is this an issue?
As for water, i tend to do few really deep crossings, and i have always checked the king pin nut technique after such...
So are we in agreement that if all is well, sounds well, feels well, drives well,....that we leave it be?... dont want to be stranded...

Re: Wheelbearings
Grease does "dry out" over time, but this should IMO be evident when re-torquing the wheel bearing nut?

Hi Oellie
Dankie vir die kodes. Het die 33110XJA bearing klaar die 4.5-5 mm ronding in wat teen die knuckle spindle druk?
Groete

Re: Wheelbearings
Just a confirmation - bearings for 4.2 and 4.5 are twins? So I can get these to replace on mine?
