REAR BRAKES

Post by FRANCO »

:helpsign: :helpsign: :helpsign:

My service agent informed me that the rear brakes on my 2006 4.8 GRX Patrol need replacing.
I was shocked to ear that the agents demand R 4000 for the two sets of pads. This is highway robbery.

Does anybody know if aftermarket parts are available or know of anyone where I can get it for less?

Regards

Franco

Hi Franco

Graham/Pathmaker/G Tech Motors is busy doing a whole lot of stuff on my 4,5 this week. Rear brake pads R 1 146-20 for the set. I am fairly sure they are the Nissan ones.

Rear brakes on the 4.8 are definately different to the others. I am not sure whether there is an aftermarket, but it should certainly be worth the effort of taking a sample to one of the large local pirates to look for a match?

I recently replaced all 4 pads. Did it at SuperQuick in Kempton, Festival Mall. I couldn't get stock from Nissan...Brake and Clutch had invalid part number. SuperQuick organised within 20mins. Quite happy with the pads, can't remember brand but I said if they squeak I'll bring them straight back.

The braking doesn't feel as positive as OEM but for pads, fitment and skimming was around R2200. (Dont hold me to this price but I remember around there and it was about 6 weeks ago) I can confirm when at home if need be

Maybe he can give part no?

Phone Star Brake & clutch in Edenvale, I got GQ brakes of the shelf. Maybe they can help you out with the 4.8.

On 4.8 for the front you can buy aftermarket ferrodo from Autozone, midas etc. the rear is agents only , last time was around 1k for the pads. ask for discount, they are not holding stock so cost to them is very little. Only annoying issue is some stealers want you to pay the part before they order it - what the hell 2 trips then.

the 4.5 and 4.8 rear pads differ and I paged through the brake pad catalogue and could not find anything that was an easy match or could be sorted with an angle grinder .

Do you have the wide or narrow back brake pads. My Patrol 4.8 2003 pads is narrow and the once that came with the calipers that i bought from David is wide.
Me and one friend he's Patrol is a 2006 4.8 bought pads for around R480 in Pretoria on the box it is Patrol 40l 08-. we modified the pads because they were the wider pads. hes is running for more than a year now and he has no problems.
See the difference in the pics.
