There are a few options available to you. My 4.2 diesel had a 60amp alternator which I felt was not strong enough to charge a huge main and a 105A/H second battery, so when my alternator konked out I bought a new 90A/H alternator from an auto electrical shop. The price was much cheaper than from Nissan, even though it was a bigger more powerful alternator. It also has the voltage regulator outside the alternator and takes a common standard Bosch voltage regulator too, which is great should I need to buy a spare one when in far away places.

Take the alternator to a auto electrical shop so they an match the mounting legs position. I know on the diesel the legs are at 12 o' clock - 6 o' clock. Check the pulley set up ( flat vs "V" belt ) and diameter.

Another alternative is to fit a big Delco Alternator, Christoslang ( Chuck Norris ) did this mod to his 4.2 diesel..... Eskom now asks him for power.....hahaha. There is a thread on this modification he did somewhere on this forum.

The principals should be the same irrespective of petrol or diesel models
