Central Locking Malfunction

Central Locking Malfunction

Postby gerriev » 02 Dec 2013 09:51

I have a problem with the central locking on my Patrol. It refuses to open on the drivers door. When using the switch on the door panel to open, it unlocks all the doors except the driver door. The moment the switch is released, all doors lock. It will also not unlock when using the remote and/or the key. I can thus also not get the door open in order to remove the inside door panel to try and determine the cause of the malfunction. How do I get the door open? :helpsign:

Hi Herrie. Die remote is in van die sleutel en deel van die NATS stelsel. Die Patrol is 'n 2005 model. Volgens die Eienaarshandboek en die inskripsie op die sleutel is dit 'n Siemens 0499 stelsel.

Don't have a solution, but it sounds like a mechanical problem (i.e. the mechanism) rather than an electrical one seen as turning the key in the lock does nothing.

I've had a flat battery and using the key in the lock has always opened the door.

When you talk about the switch on the door panel are you referring to the switch that locks the doors? What happens if you just try to open it with the interior door handle?

I would suggest you need a locksmith to open the door for you.

Disconnect the battery for an hour or two - then try to unlock with the key.
If it does not unlock then - you have found the source of the "stuck" door.
You will then need a "Slim Jim" tool to open the door manually and then you can get to the inside of the mechanism.
EITHER the linkage has (i) dislodged (ii) broken [jy kan een self maak met bloudraad]
You could try with a long thin screw driver .. Lift the door handle [outer one] - insert the screw driver into the opening on the left, manouvre it as flat to the inside as you can, feel around for the release and try push it to open the door.

Good luck.

I have disconnected the battery for a good 4 hours with the hope that the computer will reset the system. I used the key to try and unlock it whilst the battery was disconnected. It didn't work. I have also removed the beading on the outside to gain access to the inner door and have tried to unlock/open the door with a peace of wire...also to no avail. The linkages for both the door handle and the key-lock mechanisms seem to be in order, but does not function.

I don't want to sound dof her but...

instead of using the central lock / unlock button why not try to use the silver button below the open door lever, as far as I know it is mechanically linked and you should be able to hold it unlocked while pulling on the lever?

My passenger door sometimes have a similar issue (I've not tried with a key then). When a passenger is in to much of a hurry , from outside and inside and tries to open the door before it's completely unlocked then the silver lock button is caught in limbo, and unlocking / locking from the remote or central locking does not work and you need to lean over and unlock it completely.

If the interior move (i.e. silver lever) does not work then i'm very doubtful that any wire , slim jim and more will work as they work on the premise that the system is intact and grabs one of the mechanical linkages to unlock, if the problem is deeep inside the lock then they won't work
