Gas struts for bonnet & brake pads

Post by Blitzpatrollie »

Hi guys!

Just thought i'd let you know, I had my Blitzpatrollie serviced today, and needed gas struts for the bonnet. Nissan phoned me and quoted R3072 for two. You can get these, with end fittings, Gabriel brand, at Bosch Service centres for R201 a piece, I bought today.

As a matter of interest, Bosch do brake pads as well. For instance for the Toyota Quantum, a set of front or rear pads costs R146!! Yes, correct, R1 4 6 only. I asked about patrol but he said he'd need a sample or part number to check price, but they all around there somewhere he said. They also do oxygen sensors, platinum spark plugs etc etc. Worth a look chaps, these dealers are grilling us here.

I was also quoted R980 to replace 6 globes on the vehicle, R1700 for V-Belts, R940 for wiper blades (he said it needs wiper blades but I put new F****n Durablades on YESTERDAY!!)

Anyhow, I wanted to let you know you can shop for some parts at Bosch direct and they are cheap, I never knew this until the guys at Campworld told me to find gas struts there.

Enjoy chaps :)

Gavin - Which dealer is ripping off at that scale ?

Ferodo sells the front brake pads as standard, for the back you can buy the Mazda Etude's front bads and do n bit of modifying as oom Mac said. Safeline sells the complete set, front and back, but I have not tried this yet.

Another thing is I got Munroe gas lifts at Midas. They are a little bit shorter, but works very nice. The cost something like R280 for a set of 2.

@Kagiso Dit was Produkta Nissan in Nelspruit.
360mm as ek reg onthou.

@Marino Don't Ferodo make standard pads for the back of the patrol? Would be interested to find out what Bosch says, maybe they have standard ones. Its also not a case of Bosch selling a Ferodo etc. pad, they actually make Bosch pads. Would be interested to see if they have. Anyhow, my car was done yesterday and no mention of pads needed, so will only know at next service.

Hi Peter,

No I took out an extended warranty on the vehicle through SA Warranties, since I didn't get any sort of dealer warranty on it. So I have to honour the rules for a while to make sure they'll come to the party if something goes pear shaped :)
