Patrol wanted

Post by Div@ »

I do not know how to use this site yet.

After De Rust I want an TROLL. What are my options? do I fork out 250k for an 4.8 or 120k for an 4.5. I want to buy an vehicle that has been done - meaning already kitted out complete. I stay 2Km from my work so the only km I will be driving will be for pleasure. I do not want an auto - the more lockers the better and an rtt would be perfect . What are my options? I am willing to wait. Please advise me

Thank you

David, 4.8's with manual boxes are very very scarce. Having said that though, I have always been a manual-gearbox man, but the 4.8's tiptronic 5-speed box is seriously awesome.

As to which of the two is better: the 4.8, without a shadow of a doubt. Except that it is also a hell of a lot more complex, and thus could potentially give you more gray hairs.

The 4.5 is a lot slower than the 4.8, but it's honest and dependable, and the less money you spent on it, the less it hurts dragging it through the brush.

So what I am saying is, we can't tell you which one to get, you have to figure out what's more impoertant to you.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

Skilpad?? did not see him in the for sale. Why is the petrol slower than the diesel? What about 50ppi?? How does the diesel preform on a trip on sand like Saddle hill.
Before I joined the Nissan club I only drove toyotas and were looking at old Prados (kzte) or LC - but now I know I want a Patrol. Nissan advertising sucks not a lot of people know them.
The Terrano I currently own is awsome better than the hilux. I do not think Nissan wants to sell vehicles???

Haijj Div & welcome

Get an older 4.5 around 100 K - Then do all the mods yourself [then you know you have NEW mods and not stuff past the "Use by date" -- ]

the 4.5 is tough and lasts long -- get a good one and you'll be a happy chappy all the way to top of the mountain :oldtimer:

here is one left a good impression on me ... http://www.gumtree.co.za/cp-bakkies-car ... -515886842

David

I think the Petrol trols will hurt you too much in fuel, given how little you paid for fuel on the RdW trip!
The 2005+ Diesel trol models have less engine issues and still perform pretty well in sand. You can get them for around 200 to 300k.
So if you shop around and wait, you may be able to get what you are looking for there.
But they are still not fulproof engines, so I would still install an EGT and perhaps a larger intercooler.
Much lighter on fuel, but you will not race away from the 4.8s.

During the September hols, Juice's 3D did very well in Botswana, according to Cedric.

The 4.5 and 4.8 models are being flooded on the market due to the fuel price.
So you may get more of a bargain there.

The station wagons all have rear lockers. But you must test and make sure it works on a second hand vehicle.
Only the bakkies came out without the lockers.
