Best Drawer System
I am about to take possession of Patrol – y61 - 3.0 - 2013 model . I am now in the process of considering the pimp-my-ride options.
I want to have a drawer system installed in the back. I want to have three drawers installed. Two at the bottom and another (half) drawer on top of one of the two at the base. I would like to build-in a flat upright water tank between the back of the drawers and the rear seat. I am thinking of removing 50% of the rear passenger seat and getting a bespoke cabinet made where I place my 60l engel fridge – this will mean that no fridge will clutter the rear compartment.
I do not have time to build it myself – what do forum members think of the various options? I live in Windhoek so I guess I should have access to AluCab systems/LA Sport drawers, the stuff that 4x4 MegaW sells, and perhaps Frontrunner and Outback. Thanks in advance.

Re: Best Drawer System
Mark,
Many suppliers out their but I would suggest you look at Outback drawer system. Main reason for this is that it is very solid and importantly does not rattle. In LDV's this would not be an issue, but in SUV's its a must. They are pricey but I have had mine in the back since 1999 and have had no problems. Once fitted you can add some customizing. I have two drawers with the left one being shorter as the second battery is behind it. I then have a 50 lt water tank on the back against the seats with a pump fitted to assist. Gravity feed is too slow.
Another item you need to look at is a cargo barrier. This will stop any items entering the cabin area should there be a problem. I saw a video of an Aussie cruiser rolling over and the fridge came loose and killed the child sitting in the back seat.

Re: Best Drawer System
I have a custom made draw system that I took out of my Disco 3 (thank god it fits in the troll) it has two draws one above the other (lower one is larger) and a built in fridge slide to the right of them, with a solid top over both draws and fridge, it also has a 50L water tank built in behind the draws and space for my second battery behind the fridge, I then have my draw fridge mounted on the solid top. I also have a panel to the right of the fridge slide where I have a battery monitor and two hela plug points. What I like about this system is that it is not permanent, I use the lashing eyes to hold it in place. I had a frontrunner system that was far to heavy to get it in and out by myself this one I just take out the fridge, draws and lift the whole system out (make sure the water tank is empty!!!) by myself and then the wife has a seven seater troll again. Saw on the last post about putting some protection between the system and the cabin, think that is an excellent idea have one in my Disco 3, Is there one made for the Patrol or does anyone know where we can get one made?

Re: Best Drawer System
Ian,
I had a custom cargo barrier made. It uses the seat belt holes on the top and is bolted to the bottom via the drawer system securing bolts that are in the chassis.

Re: Best Drawer System
Also have an African Outback drawer system in my GRX, very happy with it, includes 2nd battery bay and additional power points.. my fridge fits in one half and on top of drawers, leave usable space plus drawers hold a whack if packed properly... water tank goes on roofrack and if needed... rest goes in off road trailer on trips that warrant it... guess your config will be based on whether you want all your kit in vehicle... pictures can be found on this thread...

Re: Best Drawer System
Hi Mark
Contact Peter Connan, he can make you a drawer system. A little different from what you might be considering, but more practical.
