What Seat Covers?

Post by Chris Skinner »

I am considering seat covers for the Troll. So far I have looked at the Escape Gear product, I believe Melville and Moon also make similar. However, I think these are somewhat overpriced at 5k. What other options are there out there?? Can anyone offer good advice...... :helpsign

In my opinion it is worth foregoing the jackalberry covers, not as good as Escape Gear,M&M and Takla.

Escape gear covers should cost you R4250.00? or have they gone up now? Its a big outlay, thank goodness i got a pickup with only 2 seats and 2 headrests (R2300)

Russ you may well be right that jackalberry are not as good a fit as some of the others, but I got a full set (7 seats) and spare wheel cover with garbage bag for R1800.00 about two years ago, and they still look pretty good, so they are plenty hard-wearing.

Thanks for the inputs guys - R1800 I could live with, but 5k (got a quote this morning direct from EG) for EG and M&M not worth it in my view. I will call JB and see - although I do not see the NIssan 2004+ model on the product list. Will post the results of the enquiry ...

OK, Jakal Berry is now 3,8k for only front and back seat - do you want to sell that set of yours Peter? ..you will get a better price than you originally paid, now thats a good investment. Looks like about 50% inflation on the canvas products!

I bought a secondhand set of M&M two years ago (at the time they were already 5 years old). Apart from a few tears which i fixed I am still using them. If I have to buy again I would most probably by M&M again due to the tight fit and comfort.

The M&M quote for front and split rear seats is R5175 - the most expensive so far.
Peter, lets cut those covers of yours up and make a pattern. I am sure a suitable tentmaker or similar can produc these things at a third of the price - its really not rocket science, being one of the oldest trades since the time man started sewing skins together for clothing....

Chris my car is a Y60, the seats are completely different to yours.

I have recently been getting prices for canvas, as I am in the (very slow) process of manufacturing myself a roof-top tent, and the stuff is flipping expensive. The cheapest I could find 380GSM Polyester/Cotton Ripstop (which is a bit light for seat covers) for is around R95/m (1.8m wide). Add a few hours labour and Bob's your auntie.
