Waeco/Dometic Fridge service agents?

Post by Craig Lord »

Hi guys

Just a quick question. We are about to get a National Luna or A snowmaster fridge to go in the patrol. It seems that for both if these brands servicing can be done almost anywhere and by anyone including Outdoor Warehouse so that's great.

I can't help but look at the amount of fridge you can get for your money if you go the Dometic way though.... there is a 90L dual compartment going for R9000 at the moment and I've done the measurements and it will fit in the back. And of course the dometic CF50 is also on huge specials at the moment. Does anyone have any experience with dometic customer service and service agents? I have heard very good things about the other 2 but I cant seem to find definitive conclusions on the Dometic fridges. Maybe that answers my own question

Does anyone have good experiences with Dometic or should one rather just stick to the tried and tested. I dont want to be told that I need to send my broken fridge all the way to Cape Town if there is a problem !

I have an old Waeco (Dometic today) CF 50 which gave me trouble years ago. I received excellent service from Outdoor Warehouse, in fact, they fixed it for free although it was out of warranty. I still have trouble free service from the Waeco.

I am a HUGE fan of Snomaster products. I had a 90L, which was stolen when some shoppers jumpped my wall and ransacked my trailer, and I also have a 40L. The 90 L I had for 8 odd years and only the fuse on the main board conked out. The service i got from Snomaster was brilliant. They are based in Jhb though so that may have helped as I took it straight there. My 40L is still working like a dream

I will PM you Johan Carstens number. I have known him from when he worked for C-TEK many years back. Have a chat with him about your concerns and how it will work if you should need assistance. He is a straight up guy, and has gone way beyond the norm for me when I needed his help with a C-TEK unit I had.

I rate their service 10/10.

Thanks Cedric

Your comments are exactly in line with others I have read regarding Snowmaster and National Luna. Most have only good things to say which is why we were going down that road to begin with. Thank you for Johans number, I will contact him and have a chat about the dometic fridges. It seems like they have undergone some changes over the years and haven't been around for as long as the rest which may explain the lack of reviews.

I have been to look at them and I really like the look of that 90L dometic dual zone. Il have to compare the power draw and consumption also because that may be a deciding factor. Still its alot of fridge for lower cost and you get the split compartments....choices choices

Snowmaster and NL are both great and thats why its a little bit more I guess.

When I was in the market for a fridge I bought a Waeco because of the good pricing. I got a CF50 about 4 years ago and have not skiped a beat.....

Only problem I have is when someone thought its a good idea to sit on my fridge and bent the plastic lid. It now doesnt seal properly, but even that cannot stop it. Keeps the required temp and uses very little current.

From what I have heard the after sales service is not bad from Outdoor Warehouse, but think Snowmaster and NL are really good

Hi Craig
I have my Waeco 55L since 2009. Once, 2012, the switch conked and Outdoor Warehouse repaired and serviced it [3 days in and out] Then last year I had it serviced.
Remember I do 8 Outreaches per year and most are on bade to terrible roads. SO i can recommend Waeco [or whatever the "new' name is]
Sno-Master used to be "Kellerman" if my info is correct.

Good luck in choosing :-)
BUT if it is Thousand or so less, I would opt for the money saver

Also bear in mind, one may use more power to get the fridge to required temp, but will keep the temp for longer due to the insulation, where as another may use less power but the motor runs for longer, thus negating the "power saving".

have a chat with Johan, and ask him these questions. My 90L never got a service ( My 40L neither ), and was most of the time in the back of the Patrol, until I put it in the now very empty trailer.

Thanks guys  I will have one last look around next week and phone Johan and then choose. Sounds like they are all quite good anyway so price per liter will decide I'm sure Haha
