Howzit guys my names Mark
I'm from Howick KZN
thank you for allowing me to Join this forum
I'm very new to the Patrol world and loving the change from my SWB cruiser
I'm really impressed with how strongly built these Trols are.
I bought a 2010 Y61 td42ti pickup as a non runner without a load bin
(Ex Gov ambulance) which I managed to get running after removing about 5kg of unnecessary wiring sirens ,immobilized, tracker, speed control etc etc
Took her for a drive round the midlands and was loving driving her even with the bucking around without any weight on the back.
I noticed a lack of power and that the turbo was leaking
Bought a compression tester to confirm my suspisions of weak compression.
Tried dry/wet/ hot testing the compression to find out if it was valves or rings
Tonnes of blowby
Injected MEK + 2T through the glowplugs and let it sit for a couple days to see it mite be a seized ring.....alas it made no difference to the compression
So here's where I am now:
I need to find a bin for her
Replace both front shocks
Replace steering dampner
Replace wind screen
FIX turbo
Install a catch can for the blowby
And get this baby through COR and road legal
When I've got all that done I'll look at removing the engine and rebuilding her so she runs sweet
Keen to lift her and pop a front locker in her but for now standard is fine ....I must wait.
Guys thanks again
You all sound like a great bunch of lads and looking forward to Chatting and hopefully meeting up with you guys in the future

Welcome Mark.
Marinus can help you with a steering damper and front shocks (Terrain Tamer), or Tinus could help you with Bilsteins.
Dawid Volschenk may be able to help with most of the other stuff?

Welcome Mark
Sounds like a cool project! Good luck and remember to keep us updated with your progress with some pictures hope to see your patrol eating up the tracks soon !
Check with Tinus about load bins also, I seem to remember him saying he might know where to get 1 or 2 but I might be mistaken.

Re: New Member from Howick KZN
Welcome to the Patrol family !!!
Front lockers are only for cruisers......hahaha.... Only kidding.
Yeah Marinus ( Terrain Tamer ) supplies some damn good equipment and spares and its delivered to your door.
The std turbo on the TD42ti is more of an altitude compensator than a power plant. These motors can handle a LOT of punishment.... especially when they are ex gov owned racecars-4x4-bulldozer-heavy-haulage vehicles
A little TLC and it will be running like a dream.
