You fit the globe, fit the cover over the back of the globe and then screw the heatsink back on. Probably more waterproof than the original because of the tight fit.

This is the 4X4 direct one.
David, you are dead right! It's just the same on mine, I just forgot because I fitted them so long ago. And because I'm a bit forgetful too

Let me revive an old thread from way back when......

I finally took the plunge and bought the LED headlights like what Christo and David have. I was so eager to fit them that I decided that logic is not needed, so instead of removing the airfilter box on the passenger side, and the windscreen washer bottle on the drivers side, I would boldly go into the small tight cramped space bare handed .... like a boss.... and swap them out. Well, I did get them fitted, but it would probably have been way quicker and less painful to actually remove the airbox etc first, but we never admit defeat now do we.

So, with the new globes fitted and aligned to get the spread pattern like on Christo's earlier photo, and my hands wrapped in Sponge Bob Square Pants Plasters, I am quite satisfied with them, even though I have not as of yet driven in the dark with them.

Now all is well until yesterday evening when I get into the Iron Maiden, start her up with the radio playing of course and seeing as it is raining and starting to get a bit dark, I turn on the headlights. This is when I realized I had a problem....

As soon as the lights are on, there is interference coming through the speakers. Sounds like when a radio station is just off the frequency, and seems to get worse the longer the lights stay on!! As soon as I switch the lights off.... the radio is crystal clear again.... switch them on .... interference back on the radio.

HELP !!!!.... What is going wrong??... How do I fix this??

LED lights do interfere with radio frequencies. You get a graphite thingy-magic you can counter it with, but I do not know how successful it is.... It is like a saddle that goes around the wires.

My son works as a Avionitian technician appy and say they get it on aircraft as well where LED lights were fitted. Will get the graphite thingy info from him tonight.

I also want to go the LED route, but the interference is problematic... will keep an eye on this threat and see what the knowledgeable members have to say.

Ok, it is not graphite but ferrite cores that goes around the wires, apparently you can get them from Communica.

I have had a set installed and set by Zone Offroad. On the Patrol and my wife's car. What a massive difference. Worth every cent.

The thing that goes around the wires. It is called a 'balun', I believe.

Ahhhh... I've heard of those before. Those are the those clampy like things on the laptop charger cables I think.

The problem then is where on the wires to fit them and how many, and on which wire.

Ian, is that not just for the car radio antennae or CCTV cam wires? I assume it will resolve the radio hissing, but then what about the UHF or VHF or 29Mhz radios?
