I do numbers
Try to make financial sense of the future

Mostly in the context of life insurance
They earn income before they incur most of their outgo.
So they need to know how much would be necessary to earn beforehand.

Then I also need to tell them whether they are solvent or not, and what to do in order to stay in the black.

Presently, I'm a general dogs body for my SIL's industrial supply company in Carletonville. Do everything from the books to quotes and deliveries.

Next month, it is on to, hopefully, greener pastures. My best buddy, and our accumulative three sons, start a crypto currency mining operation in Joburg. I will be in charge of monitoring the machines input/output and temperatures eventually, but initially, will be assisting with the setup of the new premises and getting everything up and running. Network cabling and project managing the cooling system installation, and internet connections. Once all is up and running, hopefully, I can start sitting back a bit, and concentrate on playing the market and doing research..... Oh, and finish building my fourbyfour :blonde:

Qualified as an Industrial Engineer and worked for Sasol for many years, mostly in Supply Chain management.

Now working as a management consultant across the African continent

(obviously some photography on the side - at one point I was leading photographic safaris to epic destinations, but not anymore)

Things are changing drastically and I may update this post in the next 2/3 weeks.
As Morkel revived this thread, it is time for an update…

Still doing investigations, no more at the accounting firm, consulting since August 2018 when I got retrenched, not looking back at all!!

Ja Hell, how things change unexpectedly. Thought I was going in one direction, when life takes you on a totally new route. After my last post, I actually got my first official job since 2010. That lasted a total of seven months before BEE stuffed it all up again, and the company sold out to the Chinese. I was swiftly getting gatvol of the mining sector anyhow. I was however involved in an "independence movement" for a while, and things suddenly came to a head in November 2019 with some financing and ground was purchased. A "settlement" was to be established. Suddenly I found myself on the West Coast living in the bush and building a new town.

Not the easiest life, but out in nature. My 4x4 gets to spend 99% of its time on gravel and soft sand doing what it likes to do. Peace and serenity with BEE nowhere to be seen or interfering with our lives. We hardly even knew about Covid. Life as usual here by us. No social distancing, no masks. The odd flu here and there. but we all get over it.
Learning about farming and self-sustainability and trying to make things work in an area nobody else wants. But we are having fun. Life is good.

Interesting what everybody does.

Lately I will do everything and anything that I can get my hands on. If I cannot do it, I will get somebody else to do it. I have never been employable - worked for one company for a period of 11 months -

Skilled in the following - Draadtrek - I did my first electric fence in 1991 and are still doing all types of fencing.
Gate motors and gates - Lots and lots of gates.
Solar Systems - Hybrid, Grid tied, and off grid systems. Did my first totally off grid solar system for MTN on a hub tower in Naboomspruit just over 11 years ago, Vodacom in the Cape, Sasol in Inhambane in 2011.
I have been farming sheep and cattle for the last 15 years but sold of that now.

Starting my farm in Zambia by the end of January
Will be importing honey as a cash flow starter with some extra crops - Chili's. Cashew nuts and others. I have had the chili's planted, Cashews are 2 years old already, Beehives are already out in the fields.

The farm is 4000 ha big and there are plans to build a hydrogen plant on the farm, with 4000 ha of biomass to supply the hydrogen plant. Hydrogen will then be exported to Mosambique, either to the closest harbour via the railway link or via road to Beira. A portion of the hydrogen will be used in Zambia, and the byproduct of the hydrogen process - electricity - will hopefully be utilised on the Zambian electrical grid. Otherwise it will be dumped. I have kept a 400 ha out for myself for a bit of tree farming for the benefit of my daughters in years to come. - If they are interested..
