End of the Y61?
Nissan's off-road legend to expire next year, but Navara-based wagon will replace it if business case stacks up

Re: End of the Y61?
All though its sad, I new this day would come. glad I got mine when I did. it will soon be a collectors Item.
Its still the best 4x4 by far. and a true legend. mine should last another 40years, so at least I can educate the great grand children on what a real 4x4 looks like and drives like. My only concern will be spares.

Re: End of the Y61?
-- "Nowadays sales of the current Y61 Patrol, which is offered as a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel in DX or ST specification, are just a fraction of what they once were."
Gee,... i wonder why.... perhaps its because they refuse to put a modern motor in them.. just saying. The 4.2 was epic,... but if you want to keep people from going straight to you opposition you needed to design a new motor and actually sell something people want. A few subtle changes to an existing motor that everyone knows to be one of the worst engines ever out into a 4wd is not what i consider "all-new" , as Nissan Put it. yes.
The TB48 is a winner, no issues there.
But Nissan would have more sales in Australia if they had designed a motor to rival the 4.5V8 D4D cruiser motor....
As for SA,... haha, Patrol history and sales here are a joke, solely due to Nissan SA, so one cannot consider SA as any influencing factor in this decision to can the mighty GU.

Re: End of the Y61?
This is an Australian source and this report they state that "Nowadays sales of the current Y61 Patrol, which is offered as a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel in DX or ST specification, are just a fraction of what they once were."
This is the market that cannot be blamed for bad promotion and branding of the Patrol, yet the sales started to wane.
I think the strategic decision made by Nissan was that an SFA in an SUV is not important enough for people anymore.
Land Rover won't make them anymore either.
So who is left? Wrangler, GWagon and the 70 series Cruisers.
Will they continue with SFAs indefinitely?

The only replacement is another Patrol ... I'm finally getting use to the Y62s shape ... and it's starting to look appealing! it's been around in Tanz for 5 years ... I can only dream....
