What I fail to understand is that when you order a part from Nissan they enter your VIN (unique to your vehicle) in their procurement ERP system (called SAP). This means a computer database then logs your vehicles Country of Manufacture, Model, Body Type, L/RH Drive, Engine type, serial no +++.

Then they charge you a minimum of Cost + 75%

NOW HOW ON EARTH DO THEY STILL GET IT WRONG ????

Or is it just my luck 5 times out of ten?

I had a very bad run with a Nissan dealeship here in Pretoria. The bad experience tretch over a long time and involved basic technical blunders that one does not expect from an official dealership. It seems as if most mechanics were not trained properly on the Patrol due to a lack of numbers. I bought a workshop manual online and do my own research before I take my vehicle in for service and/or repairs. That way I became a real pain in their butts to the workshops with all my checks and comment on their work. At some stage a workshop manager phoned me to get my opinion on a Nissan 3.0D hardbody bakkie with a similar problem than I experienced before.

Nissan SA does not exite me either. Their lack of marketing support for the Patrol tells a story. The Patrol could have been a real "numbers" competitor to the Cruiser, had they done their job properly. In Auz it worked that way. No.....Nissan SA missed the Patrol party completely. Fortunately for this forum where we can support each other and one of the greatest 4x4 vehicles ever built to date....Patrol.

They took some photos of the bubbles on the dash... so now I am waiting Nissans response. :helpsign: (To replace or not to replace)
Hey Lunar, have you had any response re the bubbles on the dash - I have a 2006 3,0tdi which also has bubbles on dash, I must say if you approach Nissan directly via their website I have had a better response than via the dealer, would like to here your comment on the dash issue.

Ek will graag die storie (of twee) met julle deel.

I love my Patrol and will never drive any other 4x4 - but Nissan's service is up the ying yang. Here is my story.....

I wanted to buy 2 Patrol mags as the ones on my 2002 model - for my Conquerer trailor. Nissan quoted me R5600-00 per mag - IT'S CRAZY!!!! Then I found a complete set of 4 mags hardly used through Hein Burnett for a moerse bargain - but the seller could not remember what he did with the 2 plastic hubcaps for the rear wheels. So off I went to Nissan Parow - not expecting a costly excersize it is afterall only a piece of plastic. HEEELLLLL00 - some 700-00 odd rands later - PER HUBCAP!!!!! But I needed it and placed an order with Nissan Parow (Elroy) for the plastic 2 hubcaps on the rear wheels - that was last year Nov. 7 months later and they were still unable to get my any - and I regulary visited Elroy to check on the order status. Found a set after I made a post and think Stefan who also wanted hubcaps got sent the wrong kind for his vehicle but was the one on my car. Just over R1200-00 later I had 2 new hubcaps ( I managed to squeeze some discount out of them)!!!

A little while back my Patrol needed a new viscus fan - just the fan - not the viscus coupling also. Off I went to Nissan Parow again - yes they have it R1550-00 later!!!  I told Elroy where he could shove that piece of plastic for a 1500 bucks and went off to the aftermarket spares shops - and found a brand new one exactly the same for R150-00!!!

Then the vacuum solenoid (regulating the engagement & disengagement of the rear diff lock) in the front engine compartment packed up - and that was only determined after my diff lock was replaced under Motorite warranty and now the new one also in its moer!!!! So off I am again to Nissan Parow to order the vacuum solenoid - R3500-00 later and it gets ordered according the the vin number specs. 10 DAYS later the part arrives and it is completely the wrong thing!!! :fire: Now I am throwing my toys!!!! So I insist seeing the parts manager - Etienne Kuun. Long story short - I take my vacuum solenoid off the Patrol and take it to him - he takes photographs of the solenoid and will now sort out my order. 2 Days later he phones me - just to inform me that this solenoid is R4500-00!!!! But I need a new one for my diff lock - so I say order it. Another 2 days later he phones to tell me it must come from Japan and they don't know how long it will take but he has ordered it on VOR (Vehicle Off Road) - which is suppose to be a priority order. 7 days later he forwards me the email from Nissan SA - still being unable to tell me when it will be here!!!

About 3 weeks later Elroy phones me - the vacuum solenoid has arrived - at long last. So off I am to Nissan Parow to go and collect the solenoid - we will still be waiting another 21 days for the diff lock parts as well. I get there - AND IT IS THE WRONG DAMN SOLENOID UNIT AGAIN!!!!! :cussing: This after Ettienne ( he was at Claremont at that moment) took photographs of the damn thing to ensure the correct part gets sent.!!

I was so furious I went back to the office and sent Ettienne an email - AND A NOT SO VERY NICE ONE!!! I told him exactly where Nissan can go and shove their parts - they can cancel all the parts orders for my diff lock I will replace the diff lock with an ARB Locker - which is exactly what I am going to do now!!!

No really it is pathetic.

I have heard from someone in the Nissan4x4 club that Nissan are going to replace the dashboard of his 2005 Patrol free of charge.

Nissan phoned me back today for some more details on the history of the car.

Will post some pics of the bubbles.
Ek gaan kuier toe by Nissan en kry toe n ander kanker weergawe in hulle "scrap bin".

This involves a friends car and would have been funny was it not that it is a 2008 4.8 tiptronic that is excessively heavy on fuel.

The person at the Nissan Dealer in Paarl was very adamant that the gearbox in the 2008 4.8 tiptronic was in fact a 4 speed auto with overdrive and no torque converter lockup. This after the vehicle has been with him for more than two weeks. Now that make me wonder why they are not able to fix it. They furthermore argue that 3.75km/l at a steady 130km/h is normal. HOW THE HELL WOULD THEY KNOW WHAT IS NORMAL IF THEY DONT EVEN KNOW THE BLOODY CAR HAS A 5 SPEED TIPTRONIC GEARBOX. Sorry about the shouting.

I know that in most cars 5th is essentially just an overdrive but please don't confuse torque converter lock-up for overdrive. Even then it would mean the car has 6 ratios since it shift from 1st through 5th and then reduce revs by another 10% once the torque converter locks up.

What gets me is the arrogance of this baboon for arguing and insisting that it is a 4 speed box. :banghead:

On the bright side, it seems this is Nissan world wide and not only good old SA.
