I have 2 winches, one is a Warn the other a Tmax (I think its a Tmax, whatever the LAsport house brand is).

The warn has been used a bit, the Tmax is basically brand new (tested it once without load), but both have been idle for 2years plus...

So I would like to have them both serviced & I'd like to swop their ropes/cables, ie. fit the Tmax plasma rope onto the Warn & the steel cable from the Warn onto the Tmax.

I just have never pulled a winch apart before & I have also heard that plasma on a Warn can be an issue due to the drum getting hot???

Any wise words?

I think you should try to DIY it if you are reasonably capable with a set of tools. I'm a pretty basic handyman but can manage it quite well myself. Nobody can afford to have his winch serviced every year that he owns it - kort voor lank kos jou dit jou meer as die winch! You'll also learn a lot. There are some really good instructional videos out there too on youtube. Here's an excellent three part series: Kyk maar eers en sien of jy dink jy gaan regkom. Ek gaan maar ook kort voor lank weer my Warn diens en dan later die T-Max. The capstan winch on the Series Landy I just change oil on! Much better winch than any other winch I have ever seen.

Not sure about the plasma on the Warn. Maybe call Safari Centre (Warn agents) and ask them.

Tinus, where do you get the DC spares from?

I thought of making a similar offer to JP but was worried that for a lack of access to the right parts I might end up sending him home with a winch worse off than if I hadn't helped him.
