Rims for 2013 GRX

Post by kobusb »

I bought my fourth Patrol from a dealer last week. The dealer bought the low km vehicle from the bank and I was fortunate enough to contact the previous owner to confirm the 25000 km on the clock. However he also took the expensive aftermarket tyres and rims off when he heard that the bank is coming to reposes the vehicle and replaced it with Isuzu rims and tyres. I only notice that the tyres were the wrong size as the dealer used the Isuzu tyres and bought new A line rims which looked fine on the vehicle. When I collected the vehicle and drove on the highway the Patrol started shaking violently. My wife who was driving behind me phoned me and told me that all the wheels were buckling.
After speaking to the dealer in a foreign language with a lot of f's in it he said I must have it repaired and they would pay for it. I went to various "specialists" one said it was the diff and the other said it was side shafts another that the rims were bent. I went into a panic mode and wanted to return the vehicle. The Johan from Ironman in Alberton came to rescue, he said that we must go to Autoquip and a very helpful Alex discovered that the rim supplier in Benoni fitted a 108 rim on a center hub of 110. Can you believe it!
Now the second part of the story starts, they cannot find any rims that is in stock to fit over the free wheeling hubs of the Patrol. Not A-Line Black rhino or Dick Cepek and the OE rims from Nissan are R15000 each. I now have a Patrol on blocks till the consignment of Dick Cepek rims arrive "maybe" next week.
Can somebody please give me some advise on other make of rims or even better a set of original rims in a good condition at a reasonable price.
Please help!!

Kobus, take the rims to a machine shop/engineering works and have them machine out a step toa depth of 8-10mm.

I have had A-lines that have been "opened up" like this for a 150 000km of pretty tough going, and no issues. If you can't find a machine shop, PM me and I will send you the number of the guy who did mine.

Another alternative is to get a set of 6mm spacers. Ricster here on the forum sells them at a very reasonable price (actually very unreasonable, for him).
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

http://www.errolstyres.co.za/wheel/a-li ... 4/82460002

These aline wheels got a c/b of 110 and fits a patrol. (Got a set on my 4.5 gu.)

I actualky was planning to sell them when doing next 5k tyre rotate. As i got a set of patrol steelies i want to fit...

But as Tinus & Peter said, 6mm spacers should also sort the 108vs110 c/b issue. Afaik Michael got 108 c/b wheels on his patrol with 6mm spacers. Michael?

Jip Fanus is correct. I do have a set of 108's on my Patrol, Cedric's 6mm spacers did the job and it clears the freewheel hub section where it needs to be 110mm.

I did quite a bit of research when I bought mine.....let me just have a look again as I think there were a set somewhere that were 110

It seems to be common practice for when you're in financial trouble to strip the valuable bits of a vehicle before the bank shows up. A colleague of mine is involved with a finance institution that lends specifically to transport companies. Often when the truck eventually needs to repossessed it's almost not the same vehicle with all the good bits taken and of replaced with crappy second hand bits and pieces, including tyres
