Patrol Pickup 3.0DI 4X4 Single Cab
This is a prime example of why Land Cruisers sell more (and exactly why we feel Nissan does not listen to us.)
Land Cruiser options
The most popular pickup is the 4.2 TD (and definitely not the 3.0), even though on paper they give the same power.

PLEASE give us the option of buying a new 4.2 TD. (Or better yet, put that 5.6l monster in a pickup.)
PLEASE give us the option to still buy 4.8 (not so much the engine as the solid front axles) at affordable prices.
PLEASE PLEASE PRETTY PLEASE WITH A CHERRY ON TOP: Short wheel base.

Edit: Although it is always interesting to note that the 4.2 Land Cruiser only makes 94 kW and 280 N.m.

So the standard price for a Patrol pickup is half-way between the 4.2 and the V8 cruiser pickups? No wonder they don't sell...

My two cents....
I think the Patrol Bakkie is a better buy than the 4.2 Land Cruiser Diesel as it offers more power both in terms of KW and torque by a fairly good margin.
It will hold the power even at reef altitudes which the LC will not.

Chassis and axle wise it is better than the LC...and I have both.
The 3.0 engine makes enough power for what it is supposed to do but is not up to the latest standard when compared to the latest smaller capacity 4 cylinder diesels. Think Navarra and Hilux 2.4/2.8 GD's or even Amarok 2.0 liters.

From a value for money perspective you have to buy it.

But...the disadvantage with it is that if you have a problem with it in Angola/Namibia/Zimbabwe the agent will probably want you to book into a hotel for two weeks before they know what they are dealing with and then a further wait for expensive spares. By then you probably would have sorted your Land Cruiser out both from an agents perspective or from a local franchise spares shop or scrapyard.

From what I have seen, Toyota's service is not THAT much better than Nissan's.

But in a market where 70% of possible buyers think that the LC is the best thing since a bacon sarmy, the cheapest Patrol pickup needs to be cheaper than the LC equivalent, or have a much better spec sheet.

We are all Patrol fans here, and we all believe it is better, but we are in a minority.

True perhaps, just but I think Toyota is much bigger here than Nissan in almost all aspects and their dealer network just the same...and they obviously know their product well. Just spares availability is much more supported by them.

Nissan seems to have forgotten they had made the product. In Aussie it is a different kettle of fish.

In theory at least.

Uncle Mac (Kagiso II) drove a 4l Prado for a while. In the dunes he damaged the radiator and then overheated the engine. You can ask him how long Toyota took to get the parts together...
