13-15 July 2018: 3 Provinces / Provinsies
Hi all
Details are as follows:
Accommodation:
Camping is 190 per vehicle per night, for the first two persons, and R95 per additional person.
In winter it can get as low as -5 on a night. So come prepared!
Two log cabins: Each sleeping 5 and 4 persons respectively. But these are double beds and couch beds. So more suitable for families (or Broke-back mountaineers)
Minimum price per night is R550, but this gets cheaper for the third to the fifth person.
Two rock cabins: Each sleeping 7. Minimum is R625 per night, gain getting cheaper for upto 7 persons.
To simplify things, I would recommend that each person book with Ronel individually.
She prefers it this way in any event. No: Oh, 8, two, seven 8 five, 8002.
But lets only do this once we have confirmed the date among ourselves.
Trails:
- Short trail: Bobbejaans krans (R160 per vehicle)
- Long (main) trail: 3 Provinsies hoofroete (R280 per vehicle)
- Short trail: Tierkloof roete (R160 per vehicle)
What people often do is to leave Gauteng on the Friday morning, arrive at around lunch, and drive the first short trail.
Saturday is for the main trail, and then Sunday morning the second short trail before heading home.
The long trail includes Helshoogte, which is steep, long and with lots of loose rocks. It is graded 5, but optional of course.
Lots of Patrols have done it in the past though.
This trail at its peak also includes the borders between Mpumalanga, KZN and Freestate.
So if we do this on the weekend of 13-15 July, we would have to leave on the Friday morning 13 July to get best value from the weekend.
But any one is of course free to depart later and only focus on the main route on the Saturday.

Note the prices on this website is outdated.
The prices above was from the horse's mouth.
Please confirm your interest and preferred weekend in July, and I will update the list on the second post of this thread continuously over time.

Re: 3 Provinces / Provinsies
I should add:
There is no real limitation to the numbers.
Back in 2011, there were 60 Patrols at 3 Provinces.
However it is a mission with so many cars. So if we are more than 15 or so, we will need to split up.
I would therefore suggest limiting the group to 15 vehicles.
