KGALAKGADI is my vote. BUT they are mostly booked way ahead so gathering a group of between 30 - 50 vehicles will be nigh impossible.

UNLESS we go to the Sebobogas area [That is the part of Park which belong to the ‡Khomani San Bushmen [most of them lives at Andriesvale] BUT I have been doing Outreach to them a few times and I can arrange for a very large group to camp in the ‡Khomani;s section of the Park.

It will be WILD camping. No facilities. No fences. It is within the outer fence of the Park.
I would choose "Bobbejaanskop" 'Veldskool' .. this is where Dawid Kruiper [RIP] used to doe Field Knowledge & Survival with the young Bushmen boys of the ‡Khomani San tribe.

A long weekend there will be Unique .. and will be only us Patrol / Nissan group - We can spilt camp sites. On the 'day drives' we drive on all the normal Park roads and will be allowed to visit any of the normal Camp Sites / Water Holes .. as well as on foot outings with a Bushman Tracker/ Guide in the Sebobogas area.

[If not this year, next year]

Directions from central Gauteng

The Kgalagadi Transfontier National Park is situated approximately 250 km from Upington in the far northern Cape and 904 km from Johannesburg. Visitors driving from Johannesburg have a choice of two routes, either via Upington (255 km tarred road) or via Kuruman, Hotazel and Vanzylrus (+/- 340 km gravel). Upington airport is the nearest airport to the Park and has car-hiring facilities. All guests intending to travel to Twee Rivieren, via Vanzylrus, must note that the gravel sections are badly corrugated and travelling at high speed is not advised. Guests travelling via Upington/Askham will be doing so on a tarred road that is in good condition.

Daily Conservation Fee for 1 November 2016 to 31 October 2017
South African Citizens and Residents (with ID): R76 per adult, per day R38 per child, per day [Green Card holders N/A]

There is an additional fee for the Bushmen Guide / Tracker that goes with the group but that cost we will share [for me last time it was R100 per day .. 3 years ago] As soon as I get hold of Am~am, I will get a "Oom Mac" tariff for us [We must supply the Bushman guides with their meals and a tent. I have a "Bushman Tent" so not to worry on that one.
Our day rates is paid to The Park BUT they must transfer that then to the ‡Khomani San Trust. The exact amount I will obtain ASAP and paste it to THIS post AND update as info becomes available

Though we will camp in SEBOBGAS area [no fence, no facilities, I dont have those prices on hand right now .. It always was much less than Park tariffs .. BUT here are the Park Tariffs for CAMPING. [I need to get hold of ‡Khomani San at Andriesvale for an accurate quot .. Use these as a BUDGET indicator for time being please.
Twee Rivieren Rest Camp Tariffs [Only firts part of 2018 tariffs available for now .. but for budgeting it's a start]

Conservation fee is different to the "day rates", is the day rate our wild camp fees??

expenses will thus include:
1. Fuel
2. Food
3. Drinks
4. Conservation fee
5. Day rate / camping?
6. Tracker fee to be shared by group
7. ?? what did I miss??

FEEDBACK [first .. SORRY for the looong trime to reply .. I am "moving about"]

The SEBOBOGAS area has been CLOSED for wild camping. A 'privateer' has started a Lodge there [N!Xau] and the "Park Management" now prohibits camping or driving in the Bushman [‡Khomani San] area..

I have inquired with the Bushman Council in Andriesvale and the have TWO areas outside Kgalakgadi [Witdraai and the Hunting Farm] with facilities [toilets; showers .. we must tent.
It is NOT far to Kgalakgadi and I would be O K to camp at Witdraai [some BIG dunes to challenge (OR be a pizzi and take the Golf rout :-) ] and then do day drive visits to the K T P - Maybe overnight inside for one night [The fuel will be much less than the Park fees.]
Please advise ?

Oom Mac

June holidays: From 23 June to 16 July
Spring holiday: 30 Sep to 8 oct
Skilpad, Shortie, Toro & Masewa

hi Alex

IN MY POSBUS:
SANParks ANNOUNCES DATE CHANGE FOR 2018 WINTER HOLIDAYS BOOKINGS
South African National Parks (SANParks) announced today that the holiday bookings for June and July 2018 will now open on 1 August 2017 as opposed to 25 July 2017 as originally planned.

This according to SANParks Head of Communications Janine Raftopoulos, who said the change of date to 1 August is due to a possible protected strike by some members of staff. “SANParks is still locked in talks with the union representing the majority of staff and a deadline has been set for Monday, 24 July 2017 to agree on a settlement and in anticipation of any disagreements between the two parties – a change of date had to be considered.”

SANParks, therefore would like to apologise to all guests for any inconvenience caused due to this unfortunate situation. “We want to give confidence to all guests that a resolution will be reached soon and all operations will be back to normal.”

The bookings will open on 1 August from 07h30 for the call centres and email bookings. Online bookings will open on 2 August 2016 as per usual.

Regards
South African National Parks (SANParks)
