Acquiring a Patrol workhorse for Africa

Post by Zakhil »

Hi, I've left the rat race and 20 year IT career and on my way to Malawi. There I will be farming tobacco and other produce. I don't have the correct vehicle for the rainy season and are desperately looking for a Patrol to take there. Where should I start looking for a proper candidate and what should I be looking for? Taking in consideration that my budget only allow for R150k and a NP200 and motorcycle trade in.

decided on Diesel because of availability in the area and quality in Zambia, Mozambique and Tanzania. By the way, I never expected the responses I received so far. It's amazing to see how many people wish they could do the same.

If you farming i strongly suggest a Patrol pickup over the wagon. Handles a load like you cannot even begin to believe. As for motor,... Malawi = 4.2D

If i see one for sale i'll let you know... hope you fond one soon.

Thanks Russ! The reason I'm looking for an SUV is that mostly people will be "transported". The loads are too big even for a pick-up. Trailers will be used for that.

A pickup with a few "game viewer" benches will work well..
Suppose it depends on how many people you want to transport...
