This patrol is in excellent nick, I am the third owner. The first owner put the first 200 000km on it. Interior very good. It has a lovely growl to it because of the exhaust branches. Awesome offroad vehicle! Fuel gauge not working.
Runs at about 5.5km/ litre if your foot isnt too heavy.

Depends on what is wrong. Considering that it has aftermarket tanks installed, it's likely that the problem is with the sender unit, which is fairly easy to replace, and I believe common to all the Y61's (so you should be able to get a second-hand from Dawid Volschenk).

The only other comments I have is that it's a pity the spare's rim is different, meaning that you can't rotate 5 tires, and that you need to look at the tank. These aftermarket jobs are prone to leaking, but still a very good addition to have.

If all else is fine, seems like a very good deal.

This "nelspruit olx" patrol belongs to a member on this forum, who have not been active since june 2014, reading through his posts it sounds like he had a bit of problems with this vehicle. Including complaining that the vehicle is underpowered and battling on hills....

In that case, if you are still interested, get a compression test (unfortunately quite a big job on the 4.8 as the intake plenum needs to be removed) and oil analysis done.

If those show no problems, then I believe Graham should be able to sort it out fairly quickly.

In fact, an oil analysis is probably a good idea before buying any car, and not that expensive either.

So here is an update on my quest to own a Patrol pickup:

I found a 2008 patrol 4.2td in krugersdorp (canopy, service history,200k) , could buy it for R150k. offroadbiker on forum had a look at the vehicle and gave his recomendation (thank you). I started the financing process on 28 Jan'15, after long drawn out process with wesbank private finance, the deal got "thrown out" on Tuesday 3 Mar'15. Due to vehicle being not being registered on sellers name but on dealer stock of another dealership. Vehicle already past all other clearence checks, road worthy and multi point check - I was a bit bummed about this, but there's nothing I can do about it.

I moved on, and found another two prospects:
One, a 2007 4.2(n/a) in Newcastle - R150k, the other a 2008 4.2 (n/a) in Benoni for R125k.

newcastle 4.2 is at a bank approved dealership, which makes the financing process a lot less painful. 200k km's. No service book. From the photo's the vehicle does not look like it is in bad nick, although the interior from what I can see on the pics looks a bit "dirty". No towbar or any other exstras. Then there is some sort of bracket on the inside of the tailgate which might indicate that it was an eskom/telkom vehicle? Is this necessarily a bad thing? I have not been able to organise someone to view it for me. Distance is a bit off a problem. The dealership said that I am allow to add extras to the vehicle, eg mud terrains, cattle frame/canopy, etc. and add it to financing, which my cash flow will find convenient. They advertised the vehicle for R169k, but I got them to bring the price down to R150k, which is probably still a little bit high, but patrol pickups is very hard to find.

The Benoni 4.2, is a private sale. Back to drawn-out private financing process... Vehicle was a mine vehicle. Exterior looks abused. waiting for seller to send me more pics. It got a cattle rail, possibly towbar, bullbar. 48k km's - questionably low. Seller says its because they only did short distances on the mine and was only allow to travel 50km/h. not good? Seller say thay must first replace the radiator, tie rod ends & stabilizer. Which make me wonder how it is that this vehicle got such low km's but need this maintenance done? Is this possible.

Anyway lets see what happens.

Stay away from the benoni "mine" bakkie... sounds like a lot of hassles on the way. Radiators etc.... not good.

Patrol bakkies are fairly "cheap" on the second hand market, dont let yourself be forced into a bad purchase bud.

Keep looking and take your time, the right one will come up, trust me.

Out of those two the other one seems fairly good doesnt it?

Just remember though, that you are not going to be able to "chip" the TD42 n/a motor and the power it gives it what it gives, slow reliable angine that chugs away but does battle on long climbs on the highway.

The TD42ti model you can fiddle with to get more out of it, alot more.

Judging from your earlier posts a long while back i had assumed you were only interested in the latter.

I'm willing to sacrifice the little bit more power and chipability, for reliability and the 1 & 2/3 seats. I especially like the seats as there is space for my two kids to sit next to me when i go for a drive..

As far as patience is going, i dont have much left.
I have been without my own vehicle since december. Been driving the works kia 2700 to work and back.
Have not been able to do my own thing, go for drives, etc. its getting to me.
