Hi everybody,
I am a newbie here on the forum, I've been converted by a friend of mine who is an ex Saffa who now lives in Australia and has a Patrol. He often shows me pics of what he has done with and to his Patrol, well I'm hooked and I want one!. I have been looking at the Patrols for sale and I am weary of buying somebody elses problems so If any of you kind folk know of a really good condition 4.5 or 4.8 with all the bells and whistles, well most of them anyway I would love to hear about it. I live in Cape Town but would be prepared to travel to get a good one, but would save myself alot of time by just asking you kind folk on the forum to direct me to a good buy.

All the Patrol engines are good for something. Which one is the right one depends on your preferances and usage.
If you can afford it, I see no reason not to go the whole hog and get a 4.8.
Also, get in touch with G-Man. He is in Fishoek and sells quite a lot of Patrols...

Jip I agree with Peter all the petrol models run on the same feul consumpsion get a 4.8 if you can .what price range are you looking at?

Tinus, my GQ het die van der linde conversion op.
Die hoofdoel van die conversion was nie klank nie, maar performance en dus ook indirek fuel consumption.
Ek het al verskeie overlander trips gedoen, saam met 'n byna identiese GQ, en die petrol verbruik op myne was altyd beter. Ons het konvooi gery, so spoed en ander variables is meestal dieselfde...behalwe, ek het twee dogters ekstra by...(lees EKSTRA baie bagasie en swaar sleepwa)
Ek het die GW 'n paar keer by van der Linde self laat diens en dyno tune. (van die laaste 4 dienste was 2 by hom en 2 by 'n baie interesante karakter in Johannesburg wat deur van der Linde aanbeveel is.) In al die gevalle was die dyno tune resultate uiters goed (in vergelyking met oorspronklike motor specs)
Die conversion het basies 'n headjob, intake manifold en exhaust manifold en adisionele aircleaner air intake behels. Ek het dit nie self gedoen nie, ek het die voertuig so gekoop.
Hoop dit gooi lig op die van der Linde. Wat ek nogal hou van die ouens is, jy kan hulle nou bel met die details van die voertuig, dan kan hulle die werk nagaan in hulle rekords.

Ivor, toe ons twee jaar gelede Botswana toe gery het, het ek 4.8 km/l in die sand gekry, en Tinus se 4.8 en Gerrit se 4.5 het altwee 3.5 gekry. Maar op pad terug het hulle altwee 7km/l gekry, en ek net 5.5...Ivor wrote:Tinus, my GQ het die van der linde conversion op.

Wat ek probeer se is, met hierdie groot karre is die gewig van jou voet en jou bestuurstyl 'n baie meer deurslaggewende faktor as enige modifikasies.

You can get a very decent 4.5 for R150K. Here is one in Bloem for R100K. It was LA Sport's vehicle and it got all the bells and whistles. You will basically get the car for free, because it got more than R100K worth of extras. There are some pictures on a previous post: http://patrol4x4.co.za/viewtopic.php?f= ... ein#p45279
