"Sporty gives me 8 km/l average anyway which is terrible for a "pap" 2l."

Yip I get about 7 km/l on my big 6 cylinder old technology 4.2 L diesel weighing in at the 3ton mark...... get ready for 4.5 km/l on a 4.5 L Petrol that is only better in the Namibia sand.....hahaha.... ok ok.... enough ragging the petrol heads

Hallo Renier
Welkom hier by die Patrol forum, bly om te sien jy voel so sterk oor om 'n Patrol aan te skaf.
Soos Cedric is ek ook 'n Diesel man en glo aan aan my 4.2td.
Hier in ou Zambesi laan staan 'n wit 4.5 Patrol. Hy is lyk nog redelik goed en word adverteer vir net onder
R90 000. Het al vinnig geloer en als van buite af nie sleg nie. Sal kyk of ek more kan gaan loer hoe hy lyk van nader.

Groete
Louis

Baie Welkom ek is ook n Nuwe lid. Nog maar 3 weeke. Ek is hooked for life.
Het n 4.8 l auto gekoop. Met sy Nuwe Bilstein shocks en free flow Stainless exhaust ry sy baie lekker.
Enigste negatief is die Petrol, maar dit is wat dit is.

Hi Renier, you will not be sorry going the Patrol route its an absolute legend of a vehicle.
I have had good experience with the two later petrol models, one in manual (4,5 - 2001 model, sold) and one in Auto (4,8 - 2005, current, with 150k km). I was initially concerned about going the auto route as, due to historical reasons (we all grew up as youngsters and experienced or heard of auto box limitations in offroad situations such as sand and mud), and manual was my first choice. The 4,5 manual was a great vehicle I probably would still have it if was not for the fact that I tow a large boat and I hunkered after more power for the long towing distances to Moz etc. I bought a 4,8 Auto and have never looked back. That tiptronic box is something exceptional, you can even drive it as a manual to some extent while in the tiptronic mode. The additional power in the 4,8 makes this a real cruiser ie no speed drop over long rises, just set the speedcruise and sit back and relax. It tows fantastically, and nothing beats it offroad.... . In the seven years I been driving the petrol model the worst failure I had was a stripped 5th gear (my fault, due to towing heavy in 5th) and a broken alternator. Servicing at home is simple - filters, plugs, oil, and hit the road. This car is bullet proof!
In fact I am so impressed with this vehicle, that should I ever decide to replace it I will probably look for same vehicle, just find the most recent year model if I can afford.
If you want to, I am sure many of us on the forum would welcome you to spend an afternoon on a little out and about to get a feel for the vehicles before finally deciding...

Good Luck with your search

heres an example of what looks like a reasonable deal (4,8 manual on gumtree)

Thanks for all the great comments!

I ran my idea past SWAMBO the past weekend and she did comment on one thing,,,space

What are the dimensions (with mirrors folded in) as I might have to do a little bit of deconstruction before I get a Patrol
I have a tandem garage (cars behind each other) and I might have to do a little bit of trimming before I can fit a Patrol

Also do not know that Troll, my advise would be "go in with your eyes wide open" have they got the spec right??? That looks like the bonnet from a oil burner, if it is a petrol model why did they change the bonnet ?? Crash??? The extras look nice but remember you can buy them second hand, to give you an idea I bought my troll 2001 model second hand (not a scratch on it FSH at Nissan) and I paid R115 it has cost me about R20 to get all the extras on it, so that price may be a bit on the high side  I would also recommend that you let Graham have a look before you buy
