Hi All,

I finally booked my holiday :blonde: . We are doing Botswana and Namibia. The Namibia part is not new to me, but I have never been to KTP. Could you please give some advice / tips on the following camps where we are going to stay in the Kgalagadi (Water, toilets / ablutions, availability of fuel, power and anything else)?

Anyone one else in the area for a beer.... or jointly doing a dune trip or some other lekker stuff?

Please feel free to add anything you think is worthwhile doing whilst in the area that I've booked.

In short, my trip is as follows: (starting 16 June and ending 10 July 2016)

Interesting to note is that the total trip accommodation is R14 600 of which the KTP is just over 50% :surprised: Fuel would be just short of R20 000 (provision made for more if needed) Total distance approximately 6 000km with Patrol and Jurgens Explorer caravan.

Hi Dawid

Dit lyk na n baie lekker trip. Glo jy sal dit baie geniet. Ek is nie n expert nie, maar ek was al in die Kgalagadi. Die enigste probleem wat ek sien is die volgende oornag plekke:

Matopi Pan (Booked and paid)
Gobabis - Oornag iewers (???)

Die grenspos by Unions End is nie oop nie, jy kan net by Mata Mata uit die park Namibia toe. Dit gaan n stywe trek wees om van Matopi dwarsdeur te ry tot by Gobabis. Slaap eerder oor in Mata Mata.

Sterkt

Marinus

Hi

You can exit at Mata Mata but the border controls needs to be done at Twee riveren. So you would probably need to sleep at Twee riveren before exiting at Mata Mata. The trip from Matopi to Twee riveren will also be a long day on the road.

Thanks for the advice. I got the route from Matopi to Gobabis on Google Maps. I put Gobabis as an overnight, but it could change if the pull is too long - Google shows it to be 787km via Kang and a 15hr pull!

Unless you want to exit at Mata Mata I would not go to Matopi. It is more of a stopover camp on the way to the SA side of the Kgalagdi.

The Owner is mr Johann Marneweck [boerseun vroeer van Potch]

From KANG to Maumuno porter is 3 hr drive .. and tarred all the way [Maumuno closes at 18:00 A F I K ???

Guys,

Would I be able to do the road from Kuruman to Mabua via Tshabong with a Explorer caravan in tow? If so how available would fuel be on this route?

David, when I travelled that road back in December 2014, it was in considerably better shape than the roads inside the park, and at the time they were busy extending the tar road towards Tsabong.

Lots of fuel in Kuruman, and fuel is also available at Askham and inside the park at Twee Rivieren (although it's more expensive at TR.

Ry hom gerus.
