Kgalagadi and Richtersveld May 2016

Post by Lean » 10 Dec 2015 17:03

Hi All,

We are planning, and have started booking a trip we are looking to do next year.

Hopefully in a new Patrol (still looking for the right one) If not my trusted Sani will have to do the job.

Please may I have your thoughts on the route and the campsites I have picked. I have already booked and paid deposit for the camps in Kgalagadi, so they are pretty much set in stone. Can possibly still move, but campsites in Kgalagadi is not easy to find....

Also please advise on best roads to take or if you would change anything I have in mind for Richtersveld. Also your opinion on best campsites in Richtersveld.

your help is much appreciated.

This is what I have in mind:
Dag 1 29-Apr Fri Vryburg
Dag 2 30-Apr Sat 2 Riviere
Dag 3 01-May Sun Mata Mata
Dag 4 02-May Mon Mata Mata
Dag 5 03-May Tue 2 Riviere
Dag 6 04-May Wed 2 Riviere
Dag 7 05-May Thu 2 Riviere
Dag 8 06-May Fri 2 Riviere
Dag 9 07-May Sat Ais Ais/ Not sure where
Dag 10 08-May Sun Potjiespram
Dag 11 09-May Mon Kokerboom kloof
Dag 12 10-May Tue Kokerboom kloof
Dag 13 11-May Wed Richtersberg/De Hoop
Dag 14 12-May Thu Richtersberg/ De Hoop
Dag 15 13-May Fri Port Nolloth

2 Riviere is the busiest camp in the Kgalagadi, and many people shun it for that reason.

But there is good reason for the busy-ness. It gives access to both rivers, and the area is actually excellent in terms of predator sightings.
So don't worry, I am sure you will have fun there.

Weet niks van die Rigtersveld af nie.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

Thanks Peter.

I am staying at 2 Riviere so many nights because that is the only camp that still have available campsites. I would have liked to stay at some of the other camps, but good reason to hopefully go back for a second time.

We stayed in Ais-Ais itself a couple of years ago and was not too bad, or you can consider the Canyon Roadhouse. Did not stay there myself but looked nice.

One other suggestion is unless you want to go via Porth Noloth is that you go via Karasburg and exit at Ariamsvlei. You are quite close to Augrabies then and spend an extra night there or have an extra night on you way home

Hi Michael,

Do you know what the road via Karasburg looks like? I plan on towing a offtrax outplay trailer hence the question.

Looks a lot shorter than via Port Noloth.

Thanks for the help and advise.

Hi Lean

http://patrol4x4.co.za/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=5444

Ek sal verseker n draai in Alexanderbaai en Port Nolloth aanbeveel. Alle grondpaaie is kwaai sinkplaat.

Jou volgorde binne Richtersveldt sou ek bikki omdraai: PootjiesPram, eerste aand is reg so.

O jaaaaaaaaaa .. As jy wil braaf wees. Gaan Kamp binne die ‡Khomani San se grondgebied [binne Gemsbokpark] .. Jy sal waarskynlik die enigste mens daar wees. Jy moet egter 'n Boesman Giods of Spoorsnyer by Andriesvale huur [Am-AM is die beste maar Piet is ook baie goed. Ongelukkig is Toppie oorlede]

AS jy daar koamp is jy totaal selfonderhoudend: Eie too-let grawe. eie water saamneem.

Of prober ek net 2 aande daar bly?

Lyk soos so +- 440 km. As ek nie so om ry nie, hoe anders ry ek?

Dit gaan dalk net jou spoed so bietjie breuk.

My ouers was verlede jaar by Ai-Ais. Vat maar n kettie of paintball geweer saam as jy daar gaan stop.
