Ponta do Ouro Camping

Post by JJoubert »

Hi,

Can someone recommend a good camping place in the Ponta do Ouro Area.

Clean Ablutions, shaded campsites and preferably walking distance to beach.

Groete,
Johan

If you want a quiet shaded campsite with access limited to the paying clients , go to Ponta Malongane. It is about 30 minutes north of Ponta do Ouro.
They mostly cater for divers from Sa and the ablutions are clean and the beach is next to the camp.

If you want to be part of the "party" and have many happy/ babalaas neighbours , go to the main campsite in Ponta do Ouro. Lots of bars and restaurants and even a surf shop next to the beach bar. Breakfast at "Upstairs is a must. Be warned about Fernandos and red cooldrink.

I know the booking agent for Malongane and can get her number if you need.

Chris.

Johan,
Natalie se website is : metarikaadventures.co.za.

Groete,
Chris.

Bietjie terugvoer oor Ponta.

Groete.

Yes, the best road is still via Jozini.
There is another alternative which is interesting and worth doing if you have the time and that is through Swaziland. There is a border post on the east side of Swzlnd approx in the middle of the country, from there you would join the road that runs south from mputo to Ponta - The road through Swazi is good condition, the worst part of the road is the piece on the Moz side, as expected. Dont try this when there has been excessive rain in southern moz cos then it takes hours extra (but fun if you like going through lots of mud and water dips  ), so better to do it in the winter.

Hi Chris!
I saw you filling up at Wimpi in Pongola on Saturday.

We know that road through Swaziland and it is second best after Jozini. Border timing is important.

The Maputu road is great fun if you have time , especially going to Ponta via the reserve along the lakes and arriving in time for sundowners at Rocky.
Then you have to be over the ferry by 10 already.

All that fun will change when the Chinese road comes , but from what I saw yesterday , it is still a long time away.
