Crossing Mata Mata Border Post

Post by Christo_Smit »

I am planning a trip from North West to Gobabis end of June :blonde:
In order to avoid the Transkalahari Hi-way I want to cross the border at Mata Mata border post. Any one have done this before and please give me advice and share your experience of this route? Do you have to enter Kgalagadi or there anything abnormal?

You have to go through the Kgalagadi, and you will not be allowed to cross the border if you have not spent at least one night in the park.

Also, you need to get you passport stamped etc at Twee Rivieren when you enter.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

According to the website, minimum of 2 evenings in the park, plus passport control at Twee-Rivieren, as Peter already mentioned

3rd important note

Yes, you need to overnight 2 nights minimum and stamp you passport at Twee Rivieren. The road up to Mata Mata can be done with a 2x4, there are some loose sandy sections, but you need to deflate your tires. Fill your tanks after crossing the boarder into Namibia, as fuel is much cheaper on the Namibian side, make sure you have enough fuel to get to the nearest Namibian fuel station. I cannot remember the distance to the closest fuel station, think it was less than 100km.

Thank you for the info. I was planning to stay over at Augrabies, but to get to 2 days I will stay over at both Twee Rivieren and Mata Mata.
