The "Shawnee" - no specific historic value - was already out of commission and being towed to the scrapyard - tow rope broke and it ran ashore where it has been left since...

Day 8...

The final day was a short drive from Sandwich Harbor to Walvis Bay - basically all the way on the beach...

The tour ended around 11H00 in Walvis Bay with a lunch sponsored by the organizers. The group broke up after lunch and the majority of the participants hit the road home.

We stayed over for the night and departed for Kalahari Nest early on Saturday morning.

In summary...

Tour Organizers - Live the Journey - we made up our own group and they arranged the tour on our behalf;

Tour Guides - URI Adventures - Len, Luciano (Meerkat) and Johnny were excellent guides - hats off to them!

Vehicle used - 2004 Patrol 4.8

Total distance covered - just over 4000 km;

Average fuel consumption on the open roads - 4.3 km/l

Average fuel consumption between Luderitz and Walvis Bay - 2.3 km/l (700 km)

Cost of entry per person (out of season) - R8, 250.00

Cost of fuel - +- R12, 000.00

Total cost of tour - +- R36, 000.00

Worth while? Absolutely!!

Final comment - we had excellent service and support from the guys from Pupkewitch Nissan in Walvis Bay with one of the Patrols struggling with over heating (viscous fan trouble) - thanks guys!
