Magnifcent Service: All out Africa
The object of this thread is a huge thank-you to Eddie from all Out Africa (the old Bosvark) trail in Krugersdorp. And Lucky.
On Saturday, a couple of us went there for a much-needed axle-stretch. About 6km before I got there though, my car died. By the time I had coasted to a halt, I realised that the problem was electrical in nature. I first thought that the ailing battery that I have been nursing for several months now had finally expired. I hauled the jumper leads from under the back seat and connected the main battery to the dual battery, started it and drove off. Now with all monitoring systems on, I realised that the alternator was not delivering a charge.
I drove to the track and parked outside the gate. Driko kindly sent me the phone number of every auto-electrician in town. However, before I could even start phoning, Eddie appeared by my shoulder. He wipped out his phone and got hold of an auto electrician, then jumped in his landy and went to fetch him. Lucky (the auto-electrician) quickly established that the problem was indeed the alternator, removed it, opened it and determined that the brushes were tired.
I said that the other guys should carry on and do the trail, and that I would catch up, but Eddie would have nothing of it. While I went out on the trail with the other guys, he and Lucky went off (in his landy), sourced parts and rebuilt the alternator. By the time we had played our fill and exited the trail, Lucky was just busy re-installing the alternator.
And the bill for all of this: R250 for spares (brushes, regulator and a bearing) and R200 for Lucky. Eddie himself didn't ask for a cent.
Furthermore, the trail is pretty good, much more challenging than Hennops and there is alot of other things going on as well. I would really recommend a visit!

Mr V , I think its just around the corner from you. I must say its a very nice track/course to drive. With a Patrol, just as easy as Hennops.....

Peter, it's on Robert Broom drive, opposite Lud Hersh rd. (across Robert Broom from the Total garage). Pretty much half-way between Hillsnacks and the Jehovah's Witnesses?

Re: Magnifcent Service: All out Africa
Thanks - I can see the place from my house... I live on top of ridge to right of Jehova's ... driven past the place plenty but never bothered to stop and look... thought it was called "Protea Ridge" hence did not connect with the "All out of Africa" name.
My "tame handyman" / Landy motor mac spends a lot of time there... he used to look after my Landies but is now "unemployed" as my Patrol needs no attention ;)
Regards,
Peter

Re: Magnifcent Service: All out Africa
I chickened out of Hennops on Saturday because I was advised that it would be too wet, so I joined Peter Connan at the Bosvark trial. What an eye opener for a novice!!! I learnt one helluvalot. Certainly worth the while. Met some great guys as well. As Peter said Eddie delivered great service. Well done Eddie.
