RTT with "slip on" awning

Post by mvcoller »

I have the 160 Star Gazer RTT on my trailer and a 140 Howling Moon (actually designed for the Jurgens trailer) on my Patrol

I fitted both to open backwards, so I have sun and rain protection over the rear door of my Patrol and trailer.

I did this for my safari into Botswana and Zimbabwe in January when we had so much rain, rained for 8 consecutive days! I was glad I had some protection, but it was not enough! It was too short and too narrow to give real protection agains the rain. I then made some awnings that slide into the runners of the RTT and now I have a roof that is about 3.5m wide and 2.4m long.

I did the same for the tent on my trailer. What is nice about it, is that I leave the awnings attached to the tent, and just fold them neatly onto the top of the closed tent and then cover it all with the RTT cover.

This is what it looks like. It actually worked out very cheap. I designed it myself and bought my own material (Ripstop with silver on top) and had a tentmaker make it all for me.

If I did not have the 270 awning this is definitely a setup I would have considered
