Camping Chairs

Post by Abri Hoffman »

I have been using the cheap Campmaster chairs you buy at Macro or Game for the last 7 years.
I thing it is time now for upgrading. My boet bought Oz-tent King Goana chairs before our Kaokoland trip, very nice just a bit bulky and pricey.

I am considering the Campmaster Hi backrest chair. Seems to be good, very comfy and half the price of the Oz-tent.

Anybody using these, I see it has a two year guarantee. Will it last?

These sure looks nicer than the old, std. cheapies!! Even looks slightly padded.

The Oz chairs are still king but @ R500+ (and a bit bulky when folded) maybe not the ideal choice??

Any idea on price (and who stocks) the above...??

Thx.

Been using the new Campmaster highback chair over the weekend.

My impressions:

Compared to the Oztent king goana - not nearly as comfy
Compared to the Campmaster oversized cheapy - much more comfy

Positives:
Firm seating, no slouching as with the cheap campmasters
Slightly padded with better quality fabric
Different design which provide good support for legs, bum and lower back
Too new to really comment but my biggest gripe with the cheapies is that it cuts into the legs as the support between the front legs are much stronger than the seat.
The highback has a uniform firmness for the seat as well as the support. Could be due to the different construction.
Very stable once standing
2 Year warrentee

Negatives:
Folded the chair is about 100mm taller than the Oztent King Goana and as such is nearly too long to fit in the length of the patrol boot.
The seat is very firm at the moment which my not be ideal for some people.
Does not stand nicely when folded, hind legs longer than front legs.
Cupholder is made of some flimsy netting which will probably only last for 3 weekends.
At R299 not cheap.

Conclusion:
At half the price of the Oztent King Goana and dubble the price of the Campmaster cheapy I think it is good value for money
Not in the same class as the Oztent in terms of comfort but less bulky to pack.
Maybe I should have bought the Oztent but this one seems OK for now and is much more comfy than the old cheapy (which is only 9 months old and already starting to tear).

Been a month now with the new chair. Sit on it daily as my furniture is in Ceres and I am currently in Centurion. Thus it is my camping chair, braai chair, lounge chair, all in one.
As I said previously not nearly as comfy as the Oztent chairs, but very sturdy and of good quality. If only used for camping it should last a good few years.
