Tent Pegs

Post by davejones »

Gentlemen

I'm going to spend a week camping in Tankwa Karoo at the beginning of May.

The ground is believe is extremely hard. Wondering what kind of pegs to use. I've been advised to try out rebar, but may just stick to your camping outlets.

Thanks

Dave

Take a piece of rebar 10mm and weld a handle on it like a small t use it to fist go in and twist it out on the t. Then knock your tent pen in the hole :mytwocents:

Our local Steel shop has plenty of rebar cut-offs and they sell them for R10/kg, go and have a look, or give them a call - you may be surprised

Dave,

I went to Afrika Burn last year and did exactly that. I took re-bar and cut them into pieces about 200mm long, then i ground down the one side to make a sharp edge. I took more than i needed and i bent about 2 or 3 of them, the ground there is no frikkin joke dude. :oldtimer:

The best yet is if they can weld a little T on top of each one, then you dont have to go in at an angle and the tent will NEVER blow away,.....because in the tankwa if your tent starts to blow away you will NEVER EVER get it back,..... I saw a couple tents fly past me during the massive storm, including a huge markee tent, ....they were never found..... i then saw a few upset woman coming to terms with the fact that they no longer have a place to sleep in. hahaha.

The cordless drill and a long bit just smaller than the re-bar is actually a bloody good idea and will save you time and energy (ie: Drinking hours). QQQ

Enjoy the camping. Let me know if you coming near CT bro ok!
