Ha ha those tests really does not make or brake a tyre. If you dont have 3ply tyres when overlanding you are going to take a bigger chance of getting home safe than with 2ply tyres that can brake a little bit better.
A 2ply tyre will also never in its life be able to carry the weight of a 3ply so yes....... safety safety safety

Sien hulle het cooper at3's getoets en nie st maxx's nie - sal dink dat n 4x4 tydskrif eerder st maxx sou toets?
Hierdie toetse is regtig onrelevant, om dit meer realisties te maak moet hulle dieselfde toetse op die bande doen na elke 10k km en sien wat dan die resultate is...Die meeste bande gaan goed perform wanneer hulle splinternuut is..
I would be very scared to hit a pothole with a loaded vehicle with some of those tyres on the top half of the list...

Safety safety safety. That word has been used to perpetrate more crimes against ordinary people in the last ten years than any other except Zupta.
In the first place, dry road braking is not the only measure of safety.
A previously-tortured side-wall suddenly letting go at 120km is arguably a bigger safety issue than knowing you take a little longer to stop than the rest of the cars on the road.
Also, keeping a decent following distance also makes panic braking a far less frequently encountered event.
I am temporarily riding on H/T tires. Coopers nogal.
Guess what: The corner I used to take with squeeling Bridgestone muddies every Tuesday afternoon at exactly 80km/h entry speed still makes the tires squeel at exactly 80km/h entry speed...

I say, go buy your grabbers, continentals, dunlops, coopers etc...me, I'll stick to what I know works best for me, and of course what I've seen with my own eyes.
I would not move away from BFG's.
The picture of a coopers with a crimp in it means nothing unless you can show that any other tyre with similar crimp would have failed.
I have done 50k kms on my BFG... much of that pulling a 3,5 ton boat on tar, over sanddunes, up beaches etc, some of that at 0,6bar!... they still look brand new!
While my tyres had 45k kms on, and on same desert trip, I've also seen new Coopers on lighter and less powerful vehicle than mine de-laminate from the stress of riding at 0.8 bar...
I agree with Peter, safety is important... but if you want to be 100% safe from having a vehicle accident, then stay at home!
The weakest link in these tests is not the tyres that score 1 or 2 percent difference between each other in these silly tests, its the nut behind the wheel - ie the human error... which means where humans are concerned there is already a 5% or more swing in reaction time in braking or acceleration on a sandy incline..
Go figure...

Suddenly GRABBERS are the most expensive M/T on their 285/75 x 16 LT tyres.

The little bit of safety that they say you gain on a tar road is negated thousands of times over the second you go offroad. JA JA Jy weet mos alles. Getting to Bots or Moz you need to drive + 500 km on tar, and this is also were you need a tyre that can stop the load vehicle. With all our lifts and extras the tyre plays a more important role. Safety Safety Safety
Afraid in my opinion that test is not worth the paper it is written on. The Kumho's I used to have on came last yet I rate them the best all round tyre I have ever owned. Only thing I could ever fault them on is their performance in Transkei mud/clay and I know a lot of MT's that don't do well there.

Guys - I used to drive on Bridgestone Duellers ONLY [even on Agaraob]
it is only of late since the 697 replaced the 694 I changed brands [and ALL of the other makes disappointed me]
I did in access of 300,000 km on various vehicles with B/stone Dueller A/T tyres and NEVER had a puncture except (1) On Baboons Pass i broke a steel valve on a protruding rock [NO damage to the tyre] (2) tyre sidewall in Richtersveldt when i watched the sunset and left the road .. ANY make of tyre would have cut on that *&%$# blerri rock but that was my fault.
I now have the Grabber X3 M/T on iNyathi .. and if i could choose again I would choose the 694 Duellers again and again.
If there is anybody in this group going off the beaten track often, it would be me and Mr Buchman and maybe Tinus with his bakkie [MOST of my kilo's are OFF road] -- So I maintain. .MUDDERS are overrated
