Beefing up the Troll

Post by Johann 1984 »

Hi Guys,

I am in the process of beefing up the Patrol. I have lowered the old front runner roofrack and added a eezi awn series 3 rooftent. A deep cycle db system with inverter has also been added. I want to ad a bullbar next. I checked out OL, TJM, ARB, Redback and Ironman. I always liked the TJM steel black on the Y61 but the Ironman actually looks the best in my own opinion. I see that they're also AB compatible, but apparently the TJM is made of thicker metal sheets. Does anyone on this forum boast an Ironman Bullbar? Can such an owner perhaps vouch for the quality? The Redback also looks cool.

Then, ito suspension, I'm thinking of Touch Dog full suspension. Any experience with this suspension?

Lastly, the Patrol has a Warn Tabor 9000lbs cable winch fitted. Is this winch strong enough for a 2,5 ton beast or should I rather opt for something a bit more beefy, let's say a Warn Zeon 10 000lbs plasma?

Thanks! Experienced advise will be appreciated.

I have a iron man on my patrol very happy with winch plate and bumper you are welcome to come and have a look im in centorion rooi huiskraal area ....just on the road now till about 10 jan .I have a winch on my patrol but use it only to put the boat on the trailer ....one day is one day....if you put plasma rope on your existing one and invest in a snatch block you should be fine ....
Is your suspension still standard on your patrol??

Hi, thanks, would like to have a look at your bumper. I still have the standard suspension on the vehicle.

Have you considered a hydraulic winch (Mile Marker)?

9000 winch is more than enough.
I put a plasma rope on mine and its definately worth the extra bucks.... my winch works hard, and I will never go back to steel as long as I can afford the plasma. I am also in Centurion, you also welcome to look at my set-up if you want.

I like my front bumper with my winch - it is the Nudge-M.

Not sure how much they cost in SA, but I can probably get you one (11mm x 30m, and suitable for winches up to 15000 lb) for around R3600 - from a friend who will source overseas.
Comes with an aliminium hawse, terminal ends, a hook and a 3m protective outer sheath for the front end, colur blue.
You may have to wait a month or so to get it landed here. There will be no shipping costs.
see below pics of my front end and winch - I replaced the motor on my M8000 with the stronger 6 hp motor form the 9,5 ton warn - so with gearing of the 8000 it now effective 13000... pulls like a b#stard!
